Qualitative Evaluation Of A Service Leadership Subject In A Chinese Context, Daniel T. L. Shek, Jing Wu, Li Lin, Emma X. P. Pu
Pediatrics Faculty Publications
Adopting a qualitative methodology, views of the students on a subject on service leadership were examined. Students taking the subject (n=153) were invited to use descriptors and metaphors to describe their experiences about the subject. Regarding the descriptors given by the students, most of them were positive in nature. Similar positive findings were obtained for the metaphors. The findings are generally consistent with those studies using the same methodology reported in the literature. Walking Among The Haitians: Cultural Experiences In Haiti, Chris Gonzales, Brendan Schneider, Brian Wagler
Purdue Journal of Service-Learning and International Engagement
Chris Gonzales is a senior in animal sciences and hails from Terre Haute, Indiana. Brendan Schneider is a senior in electrical engineering, originally from Kohler, Wisconsin. Brian Wagler is a junior in agribusiness management from Milroy, Indiana. In this article, they describe their journey and cultural experiences in Haiti and how they worked to exchange agricultural information with the local people to further develop agriculture in Haiti in addition to developing their own understanding of agriculture.

Starting from this academic year, Service-Learning is a graduation requirement for undergraduate students of Lingnan University. This issue of “Slant” shares the stories of Service-Learning courses and projects from three academic departments and an oversea tour so as to demonstrate the positive impact of Service-Learning on course instructors, students and the community.

I first volunteered at a soup kitchen in the frigid depths of winter in very late 1981 or very early 1982, in the heart of the Rust Belt in the midst of a terrible recession. I should emphasize right from the onset that I didn’t want to be there: I was next to useless and very intimidated, forced to be there by the tradition of service at my all-boys Catholic high school. OSL Students' Service-Learning Project Output: Booklet
秉承嶺南大學的教學宗旨「作育英才,服務社會」,自2004 年開始, 「服務研習」滲入不同的本科學科裡,是一種結合學科理論及社區服務的新型教學方式,為學生提供全人發展的環境。從學生在服務中的體驗,不但能把課堂知識在現實中運用,並從中鍛鍊學生獨立思考及反思的能力,也培養他們關懷弱勢社群及關心社會。於2015/16 的第二個學期,嶺南大學中文系的「CHI3202 兒童文學」課程提供服務研習的機會,在課程老師陳惠英教授的出色領導、以及南屯門綜合家庭服務中心和救世軍東涌家庭支援中心的緊密配合下,學生透過該學科的服務研習,與中心小朋友及家長進行互動,以小朋友的真實經歷為藍本,撰寫獨一無二的兒童故事,再收錄為分享集。
