In Union County, there is a significant problem of economic insecurity that is not widely known among Bucknell students. Economic insecurity has a profound impact on people's lives, particularly in the area. It can lead to food insecurity, poor health outcomes, and limited access to education and job opportunities, perpetuating a cycle of poverty. Therefore, it is critical to raise awareness about this issue and its consequences. Bucknell students have a unique opportunity to play a vital role in this effort. Intended to fill the existing gap in knowledge, the book, “Breaking the silence: The untold journeys of racialized immigrant youth through family violence”, is a Phenomenological research study that sheds light on the experiences and agency of twelve racialized immigrant youths as they navigated family violence in their childhood. This poster presentation is about understanding the form, function, and meaning for hiking in BIPOC communities. This study used a mixed methods approach to obtain quantitative data through a survey and qualitative data through an interview. Through the use of an Occupational Science approach this study aimed to capture the lived experience of those participating in hiking. Understanding the knowledge of individuals occupations is beneficial for Occupational Therapist when working with versatile populations to understand their motivation and culture.

The purpose of the program was to shed light on addressing health literacy barriers and provide occupation-based education for healthcare providers serving Hispanic Americans, specifically in rural areas. Additionally, the purpose of the program was to close the gap by providing healthcare practitioners with tools and resources to assist in combating the barriers faced to include the lack of occupational therapy services. The pre-and post-survey during the needs assessment helped determine the participant's baseline understanding of various aspects related to health literacy and guided the development of the educational modules and informative resources. The Advocacy Builders Project aims to illuminate systems and demystify advocacy utilizing the framework of social determinants of health to explore systems and to demonstrate interdependence of racist, sexist, and classist systems.

By developing their ability to envision each of these systems (healthcare, education, economic stability, and neighborhood and built environment) individually AND as they intersect and reinforce each other, individuals can channel their energy, resources, and power into meaningful actions.
