Serving The Healthcare Needs Of Lgb Millennials: Insights From A Focus Group, Colin Davis, Richard Ruth
School of Medicine and Health Sciences Student Works
The continuance of the historically strained relationship between LGBT populations and systems of care is evidenced by several recent studies and surveys that provide testimony connecting experiences of homo/transphobic and culturally incompetent healthcare to a reluctance or refusal to enter future care, indicative of a significant healthcare disparity for these populations. Few, if any studies have examined the experiences and perceptions of younger LGBT populations, specifically the “Millennial” generation, whose identities, because of generationally distinct social upbringings, might come to bear uniquely in healthcare settings. Understanding this cohort’s relationship with the healthcare system will enable practitioners to more competently interact …
An Analysis And Examination Of College Undergraduates' Perceptions Of Women In Law Enforcement, William T. Stone ~
An Analysis And Examination Of College Undergraduates' Perceptions Of Women In Law Enforcement, William T. Stone ~
Honors College Theses
Throughout the course of history, various perceptions of gender and the roles that each gender should play have been observed. As Western society has progressed, so have the rights of women in many modern, developed nations. In America, women became an integral part of the workforce during World War II. When the war was over, however, they were expected to return to a more domestic role. Today, the number of women in the workplace continues to increase; however, many disparities continue to exist. Traditionally masculine careers, such as policing, have seen smaller increases in the number of women in these …

Research Brief: "Post-Sexual Assault Health Care Utilization Among Oef/Oif Servicewomen", Institute For Veterans And Military Families At Syracuse University
Institute for Veterans and Military Families
This brief is about the use of medical and mental health services by servicewomen after sexual assault that occurred while in the military. In policy and practice, servicewomen who have been sexually assaulted should seek medical and mental healthcare in a timely manner, even if they don't believe it is necessary, to prevent HIV infection and pregnancy; the DoD should continue its use of the DoJ's gold standard of care while ensuring that servicewomen feel that they can reach out for post-assault healthcare. Suggestions for future research include sampling more servicewomen who utilize care, expanding the geographic spread of the …

Research Brief: "Sexual Assault Training In The Military: Evaluating Efforts To End The “Invisible War”", Institute For Veterans And Military Families At Syracuse University
Institute for Veterans and Military Families
This study assesses whether prevention and education by the Department of Defense (DoD) fostered accurate knowledge about sexual assault resources and protocols among active duty personnel, and also how service members perceive the effectiveness of these efforts. Medical professionals and counselors serving sexual assault survivors should offer comprehensive and inclusive treatment, and would benefit from policies that enforce sexual assault prevention and response training which ensures that all service members are provided with the essential training needed to reduce sexual assault. Future research should collect data on the length of military service, which could provide useful information on the breadth …

This study interviews members of the Boston Police Department, survivors of sexual exploitation, Johns, and facilitators of the sale of sex. Boston is aiming to decrease demand for prostituted individuals by 20% over the next two years, and this research is the first step in that initiative.

LGBTQ Jews are collectively an underrepresented population, and their identification with two minority groups exposes this group of individuals to a great deal of potential hardships. Jewish culture, the largely secular LGBTQ community, and the ever-present gaze of heteronormative Christian society at large unfortunately have the ability to permutate and coalesce in a myriad of destructive ways at the expense of LGBTQ Jews. While the media and academia largely ignore this community at the national level, LGBTQ Jewry in the Midwest is worse off still. Today, there has yet to be a single published article about LGBTQ Jews in the …
