An Investigation Of The Effectiveness Of Student’S T-Test Under Heterogeneity Of Variance, Hayden Nelson
An Investigation Of The Effectiveness Of Student’S T-Test Under Heterogeneity Of Variance, Hayden Nelson
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Within the field of psychology, few tests have been as thoroughly investigated as Student’s t-test. One area of criticism is the use of the test when the assumption for heterogeneity of variance between two samples is violated, such as when sample sizes and observed sample variances are unequal. The current study proposes a Monte Carlo analysis to observe a broad range of conditions in efforts to identify the resulting fluctuations in the proportion obtained significant results for two conditions: no mean difference (𝜇 = 𝜇) compared to the set level of alpha, and small-to-moderate mean differences (𝜇 ≠ 𝜇) compared …
Associations Between Parenting Styles & Parental Self-Efficacy, Brian Richards
Associations Between Parenting Styles & Parental Self-Efficacy, Brian Richards
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to examine whether there is an association between parenting styles and parental self-efficacy using a United States sample. One hundred twentytwo parents with at least one child between the ages of 5 and 12 years were recruited for the study. Participants were asked to complete a survey with measures for parenting styles and parental self-efficacy as well as demographic information. Results indicated that authoritative parenting style was positively correlated with parental self-efficacy; while authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved styles were negatively correlated. There is a need to replicate these findings to increase confidence that the …
Immigration And Underbanking: An Analysis Of The Financial Integration Of Immigrant Populations, James Baugh
Immigration And Underbanking: An Analysis Of The Financial Integration Of Immigrant Populations, James Baugh
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Underbanking, or use of alternative financial services such as payday lenders rather than traditional banks, is a practice that has substantial financial and social harm. Given that literature and prior research shows that immigrants face unique cultural barriers to financial assimilation, the current study examines how immigrant status influences one’s odds of being underbanked. Using the June 2015 Underbanking Supplement to the Current Population Survey, immigrants are delineated by first- and second-generation status, as well by the development status of their country of origin, and their relationship to underbanking is examined through a series of logistic regression analyses. Results indicate …
Taiwanese Perceptions Of Refugees: Results Of An Experimental Survey, Stella Treumann
Taiwanese Perceptions Of Refugees: Results Of An Experimental Survey, Stella Treumann
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
This research paper deals with perceptions of refugees, with the intent to demonstrate what factors influence perceptions of refugees in general, and specifically in the context of Taiwan. The paper is divided into two larger sections. The first section functions as a literature review with the aim of providing the reader with existing background information on the topic of perceptions of refugees. The second section contains an experimental study on perceptions of refugees in Taiwan. While the effects of individual-level factors on perceptions of refugees have been examined by many studies and in different countries, their effects have never been …
