Anonymous Announcement System (Aas) For Electric Vehicle In Vanets, Man Ho Au, Joseph K. Liu, Zhenfei Zhang, Willy Susilo, Jin Li, Jianying Zhou

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) allows vehicles to exchange information about road and traffic conditions through wireless communications. Nevertheless, providing reliable and authenticated information without violating the user's privacy seems contradictory. In this paper, we propose an Anonymous Announcement System especially designed for Electric Vehicle (EV) in VANETs to achieve the aforementioned contradictory goals. We demonstrated the feasibility of the protocol with a prototype implementation on a suitable device and a network simulation with our protocol added on top of a normal VANET.

Effect Of Grain Size On Springback And System Energy In Micro V-Bending With Phosphor Bronze Foil, Zhi Fang, Zhengyi Jiang, Xiaogang Wang, Cunlong Zhou, Xianming Zhao, Xiaoming Zhang, Di Wu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, the effect of grain size on springback in the micro V-bending process of phosphor bronze foil (face-centered cubic structure) is investigated. Grain size effect is expressed by the ratio of material thickness (T) to average grain size (D), and these T/D values are divided into three groups: larger than 1, less than 1, and approximately equal to 1. It has been found that springback angles were the lowest when T/D ≈ 1. Electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) measurement results show that the twinning boundaries change with the ratios of T/D before and after bending. When T/D > 1, the …

A Magnetically Actuated Drug Delivery System For Robotic Endoscopic Capsules, Fredy Munoz, Gursel Alici, Weihua Li

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

There is an increasing need to incorporate an actively controlled drug delivery system (DDS) into the next generation of capsule endoscopy in order to treat diseases in the gastrointestinal tract in a noninvasive way. Despite a number of attempts to magnetically actuate drug delivery mechanisms embedded in endoscopic capsules, longer operating distances and further miniaturization of on-board components are still drawbacks of such systems. In this paper, we propose an innovative magnetic system that consists of an array of magnets, which activates a DDS, based on an overly miniaturized slider-crank mechanism. We use analytical models to compare the magnetic fields …

Driver Alerting System Using Range Estimation Of Electric Vehicles In Real Time Under Dynamically Varying Environmental Conditions, Vincent R. Tannahill, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Danny Sutanto

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

As the technology supporting electric vehicles (EVs) is rapidly progressing and the cost of EV components is reducing, EVs are becoming more feasible for use in Australia and in many countries around the world. However, the public perception of EVs and their perceived limitations result in a slow uptake of the technology, partially because of the uncertainty regarding the ability of an EV to meet the driving needs of the general population. Range anxiety is a particular concern with drivers having fear of being stranded by a depleted EV battery. This study explores means of reducing range anxiety by taking …

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Arc welding has been widely explored for additive manufacturing of large metal components over the last three decades due to its lower capital cost, an unlimited build envelope, and higher deposition rates. Although significant improvements have been made, an arc welding process has yet to be incorporated in a commercially available additive manufacturing system. The next step in exploiting "true" arc-welding-based additive manufacturing is to develop the automation software required to produce CAD-to-part capability. This study focuses on developing a fully automated system using robotic gas metal arc welding to additively manufacture metal components. The system contains several modules, including …

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, we propose a two-factor data security protection mechanism with factor revocability for cloud storage system. Our system allows a sender to send an encrypted message to a receiver through a cloud storage server. The sender only needs to know the identity of the receiver but no other information (such as its public key or its certificate). The receiver needs to possess two things in order to decrypt the ciphertext. The first thing is his/her secret key stored in the computer. The second thing is a unique personal security device which connects to the computer. It is impossible …

Exploring Structure And Role Of Engineering Asset Management System In Production Organizations, Khaled O. El-Akruti, Richard Dwight, Tieling Zhang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Little has been done in literature on the structure of Engineering Asset Management System (EAMS) and its relationship to production and organizational strategy. In this paper, the position of an EAMS within an organizational structure and its strategic role within a production organizations strategy has been explored. It is argued that the structure and mechanism of EAMS play a key role in directing the production process and linking to the organizational strategy: the absence or inadequacies of asset-related activities cause insufficient production performance that negatively impacts the strategic achievement. Production Actions are mapped with reference to the activities of the …

A New Algorithm For Protecting Aggregate Business Microdata Via A Remote System, Yue Ma, Yan-Xia Lin, James O. Chipperfield, John Newman, Victoria Leaver

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Releasing business microdata is a challenging problem for many statistical agencies. Businesses with distinct continuous characteristics such as extremely high income could easily be identified while these businesses are normally included in surveys representing the population. In order to provide data users with useful statistics while maintaining confidentiality, some statistical agencies have developed online based tools to allow users to specify and request tables created from microdata. These tools only release perturbed cell values generated from automatic output perturbation algorithms in order to protect each underlying observation against various attacks, such as differencing attacks. An example of the perturbation algorithms …

Analysis On The Transient Of A Self-Mixing Interferometry Sensing System, Yuanlong Fan, Bin Liu, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi, Qinghua Guo, Jun Tong

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The transient of a self-mixing interferometry (SMI) sensing system is investigated in this paper by solving the well known Lang and Kobayashi (LK) equations. Specifically, the influence of two important system parameters, i.e., the feedback level factor and the linewidth enhancement factor, on the transient is discussed, showing that the decay time and the oscillation period of the transient respectively increases and decreases with the increase of the feedback level factor, and both increase with the increase of linewidth enhancement factor. The results presented in this paper are useful for designing a stable SMI system.

A New Approach To Reduce The Expected Energy Not Supplied In A Power Plant Located In A Non-Expandable Transmission System, Hadi Lomei, Danny Sutanto, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Mohsen Assili

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The main objective of most of power plants is to inject power as much as possible into the grid from the power plants. However, the transmission system may restrain the output capability of the power plant, especially, if the power plant is located in an area of non-expandable transmission system. In this situation, any disturbance in the nearby transmission system may force the plant to generate lower than its rated value, which disables it from selling the remaining available generated power to the costumers and also increases the cost of energy not supplied. In this paper, an efficient method is …

A New Approach To Reduce The Non-Linear Characteristics Of A Stressed Power System By Using The Normal Form Technique In The Control Design Of The Excitation System, Hadi Lomei, Danny Sutanto, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Mohsen Assili

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, a new approach is presented to reduce the nonlinear characteristics of a stressed power system by reducing its second-order modal interaction through retuning some parameters of the generator excitation system. In order to determine the second-order modal interaction of the system, a new index on nonlinearity is developed using normal form theory. Using the proposed index of nonlinearity, a sensitivity function is formed to indicate the most effective excitation system parameters in the nonlinear behavior of the system. These dominant parameters are tuned to reduce the second-order modal interaction of the system and to reduce the index …

Electro-Tactile Feedback System For A Prosthetic Hand, Daniel Pamungkas, Koren Ward

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Without the sense of touch, amputees with prosthetic hands can have difficulty holding and manipulating objects, especially when a task requires some degree of skill and tactile feedback to perform. To equip prosthetic hand users with touch sensing and tactile feedback, researchers have been experimenting with various types of force and/or tactile sensors together with various methods for delivering the tactile information to the brain. Although some success has been achieved recently with force sensors and implanted electrodes, these systems are expensive, surgically invasive and can represent an infection risk where cables emerge through the skin. Also, non-invasive tactile feedback …

Enhanced Frequency Response Strategy For Pmsg Based Wind Energy Conversion System Using Ultracapacitor In Remote Area Power Supply Systems, Yingjie Tan, Kashem M. Muttaqi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The high penetration level of wind energy, and non-responsive nature of power electronic interfaced wind energy conversion system (WECS) during frequency variations may create significant stress on conventional generators in a wind-diesel hybrid remote area power supply (RAPS) system. Hence, it is a necessity for WECS to provide frequency support. However, conventional frequency control strategies being used for WECS may impose a severe stress to wind turbines. In this paper, an enhanced frequency response strategy is proposed for the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based WECS to regulate RAPS system frequency jointly with its integrated ultracapacitors. The proposed frequency response …
