Evaluation Of The Discriminable Stimulus Effects Of 0.3 Mg/Kg 3, 4‑Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (Mdpv) And 1.0 Mg/Kg 4-Methylmethcathinone (4-Mmc) Using A Drug Discrimination Procedure In Male Sprague-Dawley Rats, Michael Berquist

Experimental investigations into the behavioral and neurochemical effects of illicit β-ketophenethylamines (synthetic cathinones, “bath salts”) has increased in recent years. Two cathinone derivatives in particular, MDPV and mephedrone (4-MMC), have received a considerable amount of research attention given their relative popularity among users at the turn of the 21st century. Researchers investigating MDPV and 4-MMC have devoted much of their attention toward evaluating the drugs’ reinforcing efficacy, rewarding effects, receptor binding profiles, and effects on ambulatory responses.
There exist few published studies that have evaluated the discriminable stimulus effects of MDPV and 4-MMC using rodent drug discrimination procedures. To date, …

Simple and conditional visual and auditory discrimination repertoires are critical components of many skills necessary for daily functioning, including communication, academic, and daily-living skills (Green, 2001). When auditory discrimination is not under instructional stimulus control, it can result in delayed acquisition of new skills and limit academic progress. The purpose of this study was to teach auditory discrimination to children with autism who had little to no progress on classroom procedures that required auditory discrimination, such as selecting an object from an array when given the name of the object as the direction. Auditory discrimination was taught starting with teaching …

Introduction
- Mephedrone (4-methylmethcathinone) is an active constituent of the illicit designer drugs commonly known as “bath salts”. In recent years, the recreational use and abuse of mephedrone and related synthetic methcathinones have dramatically increased in popularity in the U.S. and U. K. (e.g., Dybdal-Hargreaves et al., 2013; Winstock et al., 2010).
- Mephedrone consumption is associated with a number of adverse side effects such as palpitations, bruxism, agitation (Winstock et al., 2011; Wood et al., 2010; Dargan et al., 2010), paranoia, hallucinations, aggressive/violent behavior, excited delirium, and psychosis (Ross et al., 2012).
- Mephedrone may facilitate deleterious effects of other drugs of …
