"Recognising the marked impact of the internet on both practical politics and the practices of political scientists, it is not too large a step to paraphrase the US Department of Defence and decree the internet a Revolution in Political Affairs. Akin to its military phrase mate, the internet is effecting all areas of political discourse, exchange and public policy while, at the same time, forcing those who study and theorise politics to change their existing ways of thinking, working and imagining their chosen field..."

Typescript of a diary kept by Joseph Rogers Underwood, 1834-1850, in which he records everyday occurrences at home in Bowling Green, Kentucky and in Washington, D.C., where he served in the U.S. House of Representatives,1835-1843, and the U.S. Senate, 1847-1853. Interspersed throughout are comments by his second wife, Elizabeth (Cox) Underwood. Also includes a document containing information about Thomas Rogers and an “Account of the Escape of Prisoners from Fort Warren, Boston Harbor” written by Douglas Gordon.

[Excerpt] But the increased effectiveness of labor's political activities has not resulted in major improvements legislatively, and now there is a hostile President who opposes nearly every aspect of the union policy agenda. The promise for the future lies in the demonstrated ability to mobilize at the grassroots. But there are recent signs that national unions are breaking ranks and pursuing narrow self interest. The USWA joined with the steel industry to persuade the Bush administration to restrict imports, and even hinted at a possible endorsement for his reelection in 2004 (Murray).
