Contemporary Library Censorship Tactics: Reviewing The Literature, Lex Faller

PSU McNair Scholars Online Journal

Library censorship efforts in the U.S. have broken records annually since 2021, spurred by social, technological, and political developments. These censorship efforts most frequently target diverse media representing Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and/or lesbian, gay, bisexual+, trans+, queer, intersex, and asexual+ (LGBTQIA+) communities in and at libraries. The current surge in attempts to censor library materials constitutes part of a greater conservative political strategy in the contemporary culture wars. This literature review analyzes the academic and professional literature alongside the gray literature regarding these censorship efforts to make sense of these trends. By investigating bodies of knowledge …

Promoting Political Participation Among In-School Adolescents Using Library Resources In Enugu State, Nigeria, Grace Ogechukwu Ugwonna, Phd, Patricia Nwamaka Aroh, Phd, Chizoba Jovita Akudike, Chioma Christiana Omeke

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The motivation for the study was prompted by the incessant low political participation in democracies including Nigeria. Studies show that youth disengage more in political participation than the elderly ones. This is worrisome considering that most of the youth are school leavers and ought to have learned and imbibed the rudiments of democratic principles, although the debate on the extent to which …

I Heard You Like Posters: Adventures In Free Research Poster Printing, Rowan Marye

Library Faculty Posters and Presentations

The Ische Library started to offer the service in Fall of 2019. It did not take long for word of the service to get out, and during the first few months, the library handled a respectable volume of requests. Throughout the remainder of 2020, and the whole of 2021, the cancellation of conferences, and students attending remotely ensured that we did not have any external posters to print. Library staff printed a poster or two each month, to created internal signage, and just to keep the printer in working order. …
