In 2014 Nova Southeastern University celebrated its 50th Anniversary. In conjunction with the anniversary, the NSU Libraries determined a need to preserve the past, present and future of the university by creating a campus wide repository for all scholarship, creative work, and historical materials produced by the university. NSUWorks is a part of the NSU Libraries’ contribution to the university’s ongoing growth and success as an internationally recognized research institution. The user-friendly interface provides an excellent place for students to begin their research, or to learn about the process of doing research during information literacy instruction. Instructors are provided with pre-proxied permalinks and embed codes that allow them to integrate any part of this resource into their learning management system.

The Perfect Storm: The Convergence Of Social, Mobile And Photo Technologies In Libraries, Wendy Abbott, Jessie Donaghey, Joanna Hare, Peta J. Hopkins

The intersection of mobile and photographic technologies with social networks has produced platforms such as Instagram. The way libraries are using these platforms has not been investigated in depth. This research aims to discover trends in the use of Instagram by libraries, reporting on selected libraries’ experiences and intentions behind capturing and sharing images on Instagram. Recommendations will be made on how librarians can transform relationships and engagement with their communities through mobile photo sharing, taking advantage of ‘the perfect storm’ of technological convergence.

Find out about the development and structure of a highly successful campus-wide drop-in workshop series: SkillShops. Learn how facilitators use Keller’s ARCS Model of motivation (attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction) to design workshops that are effective at engaging student learning in a co-curricular environment. The SkillShop structure motivates students to design their own learning that is relevant to them and connects to their coursework, personal and professional growth, and independence as a learner.

Warning! This Program Contains Graphic Content: Facilitating Understanding Of Library Terms Through Visual Rhetoric, Gayle Schaub, Vinicius Lima

Building on recently published research, an academic librarian and art professor facilitate the design and creation of visual and text pieces that illustrate information literacy terms’ meanings. This informational campaign uses data from a large-scale assessment of student comprehension of terms used in library instruction and syllabi. It offers an innovative way to teach students the language they need to be effective researchers, while detailing a library-art department collaboration that gives students a real-world learning experience.
