A failure to adapt to and adopt new and changing technology caused the music industry to crash, a fate that the information industry currently faces. From selection to license negotiation through activation, libraries need the ability to track the electronic resource acquisition process and support uninterrupted workflow through multiple people and/or departments. Existing systems store fragments of information about a resource, but they don’t support management of the progress of each resource through the electronic resource acquisition maze. Stanford and Claremont have configured the JIRA and Footprints ticketing systems to address this fundamental need. Our systems facilitate efficient and complete activation of e-resources, and allow greater transparency in the acquisitions process throughout the organization. An incomplete draft of a book intended to serve as a guide and reference for librarians who are responsible for implementing digital audio services in their libraries. The book is divided into two parts. Part 1, "Digital Audio Technology," covers the fundamentals of recorded sound and digital audio, including a description of digital audio formats, how digital audio is delivered to the listener, and how digital audio is created. Part 2, "Digital Audio in the Library," covers digitizing local collections, providing streaming audio reserves, and using digital audio to preserve analog recordings.

At a time when universities and colleges are placing emphasis on the first-year experience, there has been an effort on the part of the libraries to address this audience with a customized approach. Involvement with academic orientation programs is one method of reaching these first year students, and as one step the Wayne State University Library System has established a presence in the university’s iStart program (http://www.istart.wayne.edu/). In the large environment of a research university with over 30,000 students, technology has also been employed as an efficient way to establish a connection between first year students and the library. In June 2009 the UT Libraries conducted focus groups with graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty. The purpose of the focus groups was to help guide implementation of the Primo search and delivery platform and associated redesign of the Libraries' website. The objectives of the focus groups were to gather information to help the design team determine: what information should be most prominent on the website homepage, what other design elements should be incorporated into the homepage design, and what resources do users want to search from the main search box and how should those resources be labeled?

The competence to execute a keyword search in a specific database, navigate a library catalog, or memorize a certain call number does not indicate users are able to think on their own feet. Using A Survey Tool To Establish Preservation Priorities: Results From The Historical Folio Collection Survey At The Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, Yale University, Robin Featherstone, Sarah Burge

Objective: An item-level survey was undertaken to reveal the preservation needs of a unique collection of rare medical historical folios and oversize anatomical atlases at the Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library, Yale University.

Methodology: During a re-shelving project, surveyors noted detailed preservation information in a FileMakerPro database. Recorded information included: dimensions, whether a new enclosure was needed, external status (condition of boards, spine, cover), internal status (cover-to-text attachment, paper), attributes (covering material, binding type, inclusions, bookplate owner, decoration), value/damage (value, damage summary, treatment summary), and photos.

Results and Conclusions: Survey data revealed vital information for determining preservation priorities. The …

Literature on the subject shows that information literacy programs truly thrive when they receive support and involvement from teaching faculty. While efforts to integrate information literacy instruction into the curriculum and collaborating with faculty are not new, many of the opportunities and tools for doing so are. Whether you have full-support from all faculty (lucky you!) or varying levels of involvement from isolated departments or instructors here and there, we all have access to the tools we need to spark interest, take conversations to the next level, engage individuals, and create collaborative environments for designing information literacy sessions and programs.
