Social media has become one of the primary modes of communication in recent times, with popular platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram leading the way. Despite its popularity, Instagram has not received as much attention in academic research compared to Facebook and Twitter, and its significant role in contemporary society is often overlooked. Web archives are making efforts to preserve social media content despite the challenges posed by the dynamic nature of these sites. The goal of our research is to facilitate the easy discovery of archived copies, or mementos, of all posts belonging to a specific Instagram account …

Practicing Care: A Look At The Application Of Care Ethics To Metadata Creation And Remediation, Kiley Jolicoeur
Libraries' and Librarians' Publications
The process of creating and stewarding descriptive metadata is often approached with a focus on standardization. However, utilizing an approach grounded in care ethics to construct a relationship between the metadata creator and the people who are the creators and subjects of the archival materials can provide better descriptive metadata. The improvement is focused on allowing digital archives to give people appearing in the archive the respect and attention they deserve, as well as providing important historical information to users. This paper details a concept-in-practice discussion of the employment of an approach grounded in care ethics on the remediation of …

Belmont University was chosen to host the final presidential debate of the 2020 election. Undeterred by even the COVID-19 pandemic, administration was determined to forge ahead with holding this historic event at Belmont. They formed a committee to document the event and archive its materials. As IR managers, we thanked our lucky stars for this huge opportunity and potential spotlight for our relatively unheralded IR. We were tasked with writing a scalable preservation policy and collecting and archiving physical and digital Debate materials. Unfortunately, our pursuit of these goals revealed that the university had some work to do before we …

Computer Science Faculty Publications
The web began with a vision of, as stated by Tim Berners-Lee in 1991, “that much academic information should be freely available to anyone”. For many years, the development of the web and the development of digital libraries and other scholarly communications infrastructure proceeded in tandem. A milestone occurred in July, 1995, when the first issue of D-Lib Magazine was published as an online, HTML-only, open access magazine, serving as the focal point for the then emerging digital library research community. In 2017 it ceased publication, in part due to the maturity of the community it served as well as …

Ethics And Cyber Libraries: Challenges Facing The Values And Ethics In Lis, Jessica Omer
SLIS Connecting
Cyber libraries face many challenges when it comes to access. These challenges can lead to cyber libraries failing in following the guidelines for the values and ethics of the LIS professional. Some authors have argued that cyber libraries are the future of libraries. They argue that patrons want information immediately at their fingertips. The fact that library budgets are shrinking and electronic sources can be cheaper cause many libraries to lean more towards the idea of cyber libraries. However, while digital libraries do have their advantages, they are not perfect. We live in a time where librarians have their feet …

The project is an endeavor to better understand how teachers' actions impact their students' performance and personality. The present study acknowledges the library education dynamics and the way that student performance and personality are …

Purpose-
Consider that some high-quality learning processes in higher education are impossible without the use of technology, particularly considering its impact on the development of abilities & skills for the 21st-century. Shifting from a paper resource to a digital format enables users with a variety of access and usage options. Still, at the same time, some other challenges emerged which include the quality, cost, life, validity and credibility of digital contents. This research work is a detailed description of the challenges/ problems confronting by the researchers while accessing digital information resources.
Methodology- This study designed a quantitative research method by …

Managing Privacy: A Survey Of Practices In Digital Archives And Libraries, Virginia Dressler, Kelley Rowan, Rebecca Bakker
Works of the FIU Libraries
Building on past research regarding privacy and digital librarianship, this study surveyed managers of digital libraries across the USA to gauge prevalent attitudes regarding individual privacy versus access to information. In the wake of controversy surrounding the European Union’s 2014 ruling regarding the ‘right to be forgotten’, the authors sought to develop a better understanding of how digital library managers in the USA handle privacy concerns, such as takedown requests, especially in light of the strong protections for first amendment rights in the USA.
This research explores whether the majority of archives and digital libraries have developed privacy policies and …

Context Is Key: Library And Archive Collaboration For Digital Projects, Joy M. Perrin, Robert G. Weaver
Collaborative Librarianship
Libraries and archives have different underlying philosophies towards items, metadata, goals, and core processes in their respective fields. With the proliferation of digital libraries and digitization efforts, both kinds of organizations can benefit from working together for the benefit of patrons and researchers. Presented in this article is a case study of a collaboration between the Texas Tech University Libraries Digital Resources Unit (DRU) and the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library (SWC), an archive of cultural heritage materials.

University Libraries: Faculty Scholarship
The technology space of the University of Denver Libraries to manage digital collections and institutional resources isn’t relegated to one department on campus – rather, it distributed across a network of collaborators with the skills and expertise to provide that support. The infrastructure, which is comprised of an archival metadata management system (Archivespace), a digital repository (Node.js + ElasticSearch), preservation storage (ArchivesDirect), and a streaming server (Kaltura) is independently but cooperatively managed across IT, library departments and vendors. The coordinated eort of digital curation activities still allows each group to focus on the service they have the most vested interest …
