Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study presents a general bibliometric outline of the major logical advancements that have been published in “e-learning”, since 1970. The bibliometric data were retrieved from the Scopus database. The review identifies the most cited, productive authors, and the leading institutions and countries of the journal, based on bibliometric indicators. The research hot spots in the period from 1970 to 2020 were identified by using the visualization of similarities software (Vosviewer), and the graphical mapping of the authors was developed to visualize networks between authors. A sum of 27979 publications was analyzed and the most compelling subjects covered by the …

Factors Affecting Students’ Satisfaction With Synchronous Online Instruction During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Xue Bai, Ephrem Eyob, Ade Ola, Serena Reese
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
A large number of institutions of higher learning at all levels transitioned hurriedly to remote and online learning in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, recent studies have concluded that university-level students prefer learning in face-to-face settings. This study seeks to understand the factors that are driving students’ rejection of remote and online learning options and to provide insight into future efforts to implement strategies and tools to mitigate these adverse factors. The results show factors that contribute the most to students’ perceived satisfaction in the remote instructional setting are less interaction during live lectures, more distractions, less …

“What’S Up, Doc?”: Selling Digital Literacy To Academics, Marianne Sato, Kathleen Smeaton, Thomas Palmer
Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences
When academics receive emails that start with “Wassup bro?” and students think digital literacy means “computer skills for old people”, how does the library bridge the gap between students and academics? Increasingly, libraries play a pivotal role in supporting learning in this critical space. However, more could be done. Libraries need to advocate for digital literacy as a legitimate capability that should be embedded into the curriculum rather than an optional extra.
In 2018, The University of Queensland Library undertook a project to create digital literacy modules to enable students to develop digital capabilities that would “fit an individual for …

Software Of The Oppressed: Reprogramming The Invisible Discipline, Erin R. Glass
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation offers a critical analysis of software practices within the university and the ways they contribute to a broader status quo of software use, development, and imagination. Through analyzing the history of software practices used in the production and circulation of student and scholarly writing, I argue that this overarching software status quo has oppressive qualities in that it supports the production of passive users, or users who are unable to collectively understand and transform software code for their own interests. I also argue that the university inadvertently normalizes and strengthens the software status quo through what I call …
