Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Automation is interpreted as the replacement of manual operations by electronics and computer-controlled systems. Human resource management is an indispensable part of every firm be it the space of retail, healthcare, education or any other sector. Activities such as hiring new workers, training, or making sure that local labour laws are obeyed with HR processes and are a crucial part of every organisation. HR has typically been believed of as an extremely manual department procedure. Employees are accustomed to doing this manually and getting the job done themselves. But everything around the HR processes are changing rapidly. HR Automation is …

Engaging Stakeholder Networks To Support Global Oa Monograph Usage Analytics, Christina Drummond
Collaborative Librarianship
Just as COVID-19 brought in-person meetings to a halt, the Open Access eBook Usage (OAeBU) Data Trust transitioned from a two-year stakeholder planning project to a two-year global pilot tasked with developing infrastructure use-cases, software code, sustainability models, and governance mechanisms to better enable the usage and impact analyses of OA monographs. This report introduces the array of stakeholders involved in OA book analytics and summarizes how this data trust effort worked to engage them during the first third of the project. Virtual network building and engagement strategies such as online stakeholder-oriented communities and collaboration tools are discussed alongside traditional …

Data, Stats, Go: Navigating The Intersections Of Cataloging, E-Resource, And Web Analytics Reporting, Rachel S. Evans, Wendy Moore, Jessica Pasquale, Andre Davison
Presentations
Do you trudge through gathering statistics at fiscal or calendar year-end? Do you wonder why you track certain things, thinking many seem outdated or irrelevant? Many places seem to keep counting certain statistics because "that's what they've always done." For e-resources, how do you integrate those with physical counts and reconcile the variations (updated e-resources versus re-cataloged physical items)? What about repository downloads and other web traffic? The quantity of stats that libraries track is staggering and keeps growing. This program will encourage attendees to stop and evaluate what and why they're gathering data and help identify possible alternatives to …

Relationship Between Perceived Usefulness, Ease Of Use, And Acceptance Of Business Intelligence Systems, Christina Ndiwa Sandema-Sombe
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In retail, the explosion of data sources and data has provided incentive to invest in information systems (IS), which enable leaders to understand the market and make timely decisions to improve performance. Given that users’ perceptions of IS affects their use of IS, understanding the factors influencing user acceptance is critical to acquiring an effective business intelligence system (BIS) for an organization. Grounded in the technology acceptance model theory, the purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship between perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and user acceptance of business intelligence systems (BIS) in retail organizations. …

Modern ILS's produce a wealth of data, that properly blended and analyzed, would add value to the Library mission. The challenge is that while Librarians have the data and understand the mission we lack the analytics tools and skillset necessary to extract actionable intelligence. It simply isn't one of our core competencies . Fortunately college campuses do have offices that have the tools and skillsets necessary to analyze our data; Institutional Research. This presentation will explore how the University at Buffalo Libraries partnered with its campus' Institutional Research office on an analytics initiative using their visualization platform: Tableau.

Every other year, the ACRL Research Planning and Review Committee produces a document on top trends in higher education as they relate to academic librarianship. Topics in this edition of ACRL Top Trends will be familiar to some readers who will hopefully learn of new materials to expand their knowledge. Other readers will be made aware of trends that are outside of their experience. This is the nature of trends in our current technological and educational environments: change is continual, but it affects different libraries at different rates. The 2018 top trends share several overarching themes, including the impact of …
The Myth Of The Declining Reference Statistic: Revealing Dynamic Reference Services Through Digital Analytics, Melissa Del Castillo, Marissa C. Ball
The Myth Of The Declining Reference Statistic: Revealing Dynamic Reference Services Through Digital Analytics, Melissa Del Castillo, Marissa C. Ball
Works of the FIU Libraries
It seems customary practice now that there is a need for libraries to “justify” their relevance, impact, contributions, and more. Traditionally, we do this by looking at some basics - how many people walk through our doors, how many classes/workshops are we teaching, and how many people did we help at the reference desk? It is hard to deny when looking at these statistics that there are some obvious trends. In the reference realm, this traditionally translates to decreasing statistics - but are these statistics telling the whole story? Are our reference desk statistics really going down? Are there other …

News Verification Suite: Towards System Design To Supplement Reporters’ And Editors’ Judgements, Victoria L. Rubin
Victoria Rubin
The News Verification Suite aims to provide users with a set of functions to verify information in the news. This paper offers a conceptual basis and a vision of system elements towards automated fact-checking in news production, curation, and consumption. The traditional model of journalism is compared to ‘news sharing a.s.a.p.’, highlighting similarities between journalistic criteria of excellence and LIS mandates for credibility and information quality. Potential steps for intervention with text-analytical technologies are identified – deception detection, rumor busting, satire labeling; they are nascent but feasible. Automated news verification can support and supplement news producers’ and news readers’ decision-making.

Counting, Then Re-Counting: National Statistical Reporting From Within Alma And From Alma Analytics, Julene L. Jones
Library Presentations
National statistics are collected and reported by libraries for a variety of reasons. The presenter was recently asked to report statistics about her library's collections for ARL, AAHSL, ABET, CEAL and IPEDS, each of whom ask a variety of questions about disparate data points. Her institution recently migrated from Voyager to Alma, and she found that the data is not comparable between the prior and subsequent years to this migration. The differing statistical collection methods between Voyager and Alma / Analytics will be discussed, and if time allows, the presenter would appreciate any tips for collecting collection-based data and its …

Analyzing Trends In Discovery Layer Effectiveness Using High Impact Referrals, Robert Boissy
Analyzing Trends In Discovery Layer Effectiveness Using High Impact Referrals, Robert Boissy
Upstate New York Science Librarians Conference
Many competing claims have been made about the time and expense of maintaining different discovery tools in the academic library setting. Analysis of traffic, visits, and views may be inadequate data to focus this discussion. Analysis of high impact referrals, those that lead directly to downloads and denials, is more meaningful. Downloads are an indicator of worth, as are denials. This brief session will outline what a major STM publisher looks for in the profile of the discovery layer of its academic clients.
