How Libraries Are Meeting Researcher Needs In The Digital Humanities, Kelley F. Rowan

Works of the FIU Libraries

This presentation will provide guidance for those considering the creation of a digital humanities (DH) lab, as well as for those with a current functional DH lab. The Digital Scholars Studio at Florida International University (FIU) was created in 2016 with the purpose of providing needed technology and collaborative space for researchers and students. Paws And Breathe: How Pet Therapy Thrives In An Academic Library, Pamela N. Martin, Andrea Krebs, William Rozum

Library Faculty & Staff Presentations

Since the spring of 2014, the Merrill-Cazier library has offered stress-relieving activities during finals week to help students cope with their heavy workloads. In the past, the library offered two sessions during finals week, but because of positive feedback and the huge student turnout at these sessions, the library has started to make pet therapy a weekly occurrence. Thanks to the kindness of our volunteer handlers, the therapy dogs have started to come to the library every Tuesday, and the feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive.

Pet therapy does …

Lending Video Game Consoles In An Academic Library, Ryan F. Buller

University Libraries: Faculty Scholarship

This paper will outline the process and discussions undertaken at the University of Denver’s University Libraries to implement a lending service providing video game consoles. Faculty and staff at the University Libraries decided to pursue the new lending service, though not a traditional library offering, to support the needs of a video game design curriculum in the Emergent Digital Practices program. By rethinking the role and scope of the library collection, the library met the demonstrated needs of an emerging program and reinforced its usefulness to the campus community.

The Missing Piece: Assessing Implementation Fidelity, Megan Hodge, Laura W. Gariepy Jan 2017

The Missing Piece: Assessing Implementation Fidelity, Megan Hodge, Laura W. Gariepy

VCU Libraries Faculty and Staff Publications

Two years ago, our library merged three desks as well as people from three different departments to staff that desk. As part of this consolidation, we developed a new model for answering patron questions that incorporated chat/text, an on-call system, and referrals.

Before assessing whether this new service model was an improvement for our patrons, we first assessed whether we had implemented the model as it was originally envisioned in order to determine whether any failures were a result of the model itself or how the library had implemented the concept of the model. This recipe will introduce the concept …
