The purpose of this study was to look into the administrative needs of the media specialist working in a school situation, and to provide for him resources and suggestions on administrative procedures. These would include general examples and descriptions of media center operations, sources and selection of media and equipment, standards for media centers, and specific methods used in technical processing and other administrative activities.

Books, periodicals, pamphlets, government documents, and materials available through ERIC with recent publications dates were searched. A number of sources were eliminated in an effort to prepare a practical and useful bibliography. A good portion …

Research has shown that prospective teachers have a very limited knowledge of educational media and media centers, and that little is presently being done to correct this deficiency. The intent of this study was to develop a course of instruction which would give the prospective secondary teacher of the social sciences the knowledge and acquaintanceship necessary to enable him to make intelligent and effective use of educational media and the school media center.

This thesis will show how flexibly scheduled use of the school library by teachers and children can be effective even.with inadequate facilities and personnel. It will also show how library experiences can be made purposeful, practical, interesting, and enjoyable for the children. My special studies for the honors program mainly consisted of compiling a bibliography for a boys' training school. However, I did research involving the nature of training schools. Also, I spoke with Miss Shinn, who is the director of institutional libraries in Arkansas. She informed me that the training schools' libraries are to be approved under the same standards as school libraries. The services extended beyond books as half of this year's budget was spent on audio-visual equipment.

According to ALA school media standards, a small library should consist of at least 6000 volumes. My bibliography is not that extensive, …
