Named But Not Known: Teaching And Assessing The Research-Writing Process, Ruth Boeder

In lived experience, the two processes of secondary research and writing overlap and intertwine interminably, creating an overarching complex system as research becomes expressed in writing and writing generates new research. This classroom study explores the two processes as one—the research-writing process—through coding of student journal responses and assessment of student research papers. Analysis reveals students to be thoughtful but not yet as nuanced in their descriptions of their research process as much be desired. They more frequently discuss writing with weaknesses in their research process than with research strengths. Further findings indicate that although it is difficult to assess …

Convolutional neural networks (ConvNet) have improved the state of the art in many applications. Face recognition tasks, for example, have seen a significantly improved performance due to ConvNets. However, less attention has been given to video-based face recognition. Here, we make three contributions along these lines.

First, we proposed a ConvNet-based system for long-term face tracking from videos. Through taking advantage of pre-trained deep learning models on big data, we developed a novel system for accurate video face tracking in the unconstrained environments depicting various people and objects moving in and out of the frame. Reliability And Validity Of Michigan School Libraries For The 21st Century Measurement Benchmarks, Natosha Nicole Floyd

The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Michigan School Libraries for the 21st Century Measurement Benchmarks (SL21). The instrument consists of 19 items with three subscales: Building the 21st Century Learning Environment Subscale, Teaching for 21st Century Learning Subscale, and Leading the Way to 21st Century Learning Subscale. The sample consisted of 54 respondents who were administered the instrument in 2014 and 2015. Cronbach’s alpha for the total instrument was 0.807 (n = 19 items). Predicting time-to-event from longitudinal data where different events occur at different time points is an extremely important problem in several domains such as healthcare, economics, social networks and seismology, to name a few. These manufacturing process data often contain data inconsistencies, and it causes challenges in extracting useful information from the data. Manufacturing Menopause: An Analysis Of The Portrayal Of Menopause And Information Content On Pharmaceutical Web Sites, Deborah H. Charbonneau

Consumer-targeted prescription drug advertising serves as an interesting lens through which we can examine the portrayal of menopause in online drug advertisements. The aim of this study was to explore the portrayal of menopause on web sites sponsored by pharmaceutical companies for hormone therapies (HT). To unravel this question, a qualitative content analysis of web sites for FDA-approved hormone therapies was employed. A total number of 608 printed pages of web site content from eight web sites (N=8) were analyzed. Key findings elucidated how menopause was portrayed on the pharmaceutical web sites.
