This paper reports the results of a survey of student satisfaction with electronic library resources beyond the online catalog at Wayne State University. Undertaken in Fall Term 2000 as a class project for a marketing course, a student team designed, administered, and analyzed a survey sent to a 10% random sample (2,965) of all students with a return rate of 9.41% (271). Almost 40% of the responding students said that they were unaware of electronic resource though 53.8% of these same students answered subsequent questions about use of these resources. Digital Infrastructure Development Within A Nonprofit Polymer Science Library: An Analysis Of The Transition To Digital Serials At The Michigan Molecular Institute, Natalie A. Tucker, Robert P. Holley

The authors analyze the issues that the Michigan Molecular Institute Library (MMI) will face in making the transition to digital serials. Supporting a specialized research institute, the library has a limited number of serial subscriptions (68) from a large number of publishers (42). Furthermore, its specialized nature limits the number of potential consortia partners. Strengths include a user community of skilled researchers in a well-defined research area. In making the transition, MMI will encounter both similar and different issues than those found in larger academic and research libraries. A team of academic librarians is using a set of common strategies – assessment, advocacy and advertisement - to develop and enhance health information services and programs to an urban campus community and beyond. As a means of meeting the challenge of disseminating and promoting a large number of new information resources and skills to current library patrons and to new user populations, these strategies inform a refocused program for on-site library instruction, a current health information outreach initiative and planning for a new health outreach initiative.
