Objectives: The objective of this study is to discover and synthesize the concepts and contents of the literature published in health sciences education journals investigating the experiences of LGBTQIA+ health sciences students. Methods: Literature searches were performed in Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, and ERIC databases based on an established PubMed search strategy and adapted for each database. Results were limited to the contents of a selection of health sciences education journals. Studies were required to focus on the experiences of health sciences students identifying as LGBTQIA+ and their perceptions of these experiences. Results: Searches yielded 695 citations. Objective: The aim is to construct an institutional repository (IR) focused on a health science campus that encompasses intellectual output of the faculty and students while preserving campus work and promoting open access.
Methods: The Digital Commons Institutional Repository software/platform has enabled us to create and continuously build digital collections. Several librarians on our team are responsible for different collections in the IR. The digital collections include journals, faculty/student publications, poster presentations, data sets, campus artwork, and other campus-related materials. The Ische Library started to offer the service in Fall of 2019. It did not take long for word of the service to get out, and during the first few months, the library handled a respectable volume of requests. In 2020, COVID-19 struck and almost all poster printing halted. Throughout the remainder of 2020, and the whole of 2021, the cancellation of conferences, and students attending remotely ensured that we did not have any external posters to print. Library staff printed a poster or two each month, to created internal signage, and just to keep the printer in working order. …

Objective: To launch a new library service aimed at assisting researchers with managing their data to meet new funder requirements and making their data available for future use.
Methods: Two librarians received training in the field of Data Services and earned the Data Services Specialization certification through MLA. They learned about current funder requirements and created a LibGuide about data management. They hosted a campus wide information session to share timely information and resources regarding the new NIH policy for data management and sharing. Future plans include expanding education and outreach to students, faculty, and researchers.

Objective: To build a database of campus art to help preserve campus history and to create a record of where items are currently located (or when they were last seen). Methods: Using our campus’s instance of BePress Institutional Repository, I built an online collection of images of artwork housed on campus, mostly portraits of historical faculty members. Historical information is gathered about each individual, or the piece of art, and then added to the database. Statistics on usage are gathered and new pieces to add are being identified monthly. Objective: To create a template for LSUHSC-NO’s LibGuides to give them a unified look and feel and make navigation of the LibGuides easier. Methods: Using LibGuides template editor, changed the navigation from “tabbed” to “side nav” and created a style guide for other librarians to base their LibGuides on and have a centralized place to look for resources and other help on building a LibGuide. Assessed relevance of individual guides, edited the tags list to get rid of unnecessary tags. Added Alt Text to images to increase accessibility of guides. This paper examined the level of leadership and job performance of library personnel in University of Abuja, Nigeria. Survey research methodology was used with a total sample size of 202 library personnel in University of Abuja library using simple random sampling techniques. Data was collected mainly through questionnaire and analyzed using frequency distribution and descriptive statistics. The result revealed that the leadership of the University of Abuja library consulted his staff in taking decision at the same time a team player, friendly and provided mentorship to his subordinate. "We're Gonna Figure This Out": First-Generation Students And Academic Libraries, Juliann Couture, Jimena Bretón, Emily Dommermuth, Natasha Floersch, Darren Ilett, Kristine Nowak, Lindsay Roberts, Renae Watson

Although extensive research has looked at first-generation college students’ experiences, very little has examined the role of the library. This article reports the results of an asset-based exploratory study understanding the experiences of first-generation college students at three universities. Key findings of this study focus on themes of self-advocacy, sense of belonging, library customization, and integration of the library with the larger campus. This article discusses these key themes in the context of improving library services and spaces, ultimately providing more inclusive resources for all student groups. Implications and recommendations for professional practice are discussed.

This poster outlines CSU, San Bernardino’s (CSUSB) Library Ambassador initiative, a partnership between the Pfau Library and the Office of Undergraduate Studies’ Student Mentoring Program that aims to connect students in first-year courses with peers knowledgeable about library resources and services. The poster includes the history of the program, which was piloted in 2016, and addresses some of the challenges and successes encountered along the way. This article reviews scholarship of incorporating institutional objectives in academic courses and proposes a method to embed mission-critical competencies in a library instruction course. Few academic institutions focus their mission or core competencies on digital communication. LaGuardia Community College delineates three competencies in its mission: inquiry and problem solving, global learning, and integrative learning. Students exhibit command of these competencies in written, oral, or digital communication. The College defines the digital communication ability as successful collaboration and interaction using online tools, such as discussion boards, either to stage written exchange, or to capture video or oral discussions. Library instruction varies in format but often manifests in the librarian teaching a single, isolated class session—what librarians refer to as a “one-shot.” Many challenges accompany this traditional format, including time-constraints, disengaged audiences, and little understanding on the part of the student as to how the library instruction integrates with course content. Flipped Learning methods can help counter these challenges even when the overall course is not based on a flipped model. A History Harvest is a collaborative approach to community archiving, which leverages the skills of historians, librarians, or archivists and creates experiential learning opportunities for students to collect, digitize, and share cultural heritage objects and oral histories online. In many cases, archival skills are needed to curate and preserve the digital objects created and collected during History Harvest events. In this session, presenters discuss how we can contribute our skills, knowledge, and repository resources to support our local and regional communities and diversify the historical voice preserved in our collections.
