Undergraduates comprise a highly complex information community, composed of many identities and with a range of interests and skills. Emerging technologies continue to play a critical role in undergraduates’ information behaviors. While prior literature has focused on the academic information needs of students, emerging technologies have brought to light the considerable role of their everyday life information behaviors. This project report describes climate assessment activities in support of the development of a college-level diversity, equity, and inclusion (EDI) action plan. Elements of the climate assessment activities are described along with their purpose and rationale for inclusion. Recommendations are made for libraries to design and deploy their own EDI assessment activities with the goal of developing robust action plans supportive of inclusive excellence.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate library schools’ curricula in Nigeria with the aim of identifying a practical course on computer literacy to solve the problem of lack of ICT staff as noted by several studies conducted on the African continent. The study covered 30 universities offering Library and Information Science. The main instrument for data collection was analysis of departmental documents containing the LIS curriculum. Some library and information science educators and students were also interviewed on the availability of computer laboratories in the LIS department for students to acquire computer skills. This study aims to examine library resources and research environment in higher education institutions in terms of students’ satisfaction. The library in university has a central role in higher education in multiple ways. As the online web of knowledge is providing free of cost. However, the similar nature of services is subscribed and paid at student homes. For the present research, a quantitative study design was opted to conduct an online survey. A total of 1358 students participated from public and private sector universities to fill the questionnaire. The questionnaire was pre-tested from 30 respondents. Academic librarians have long been responsible for teaching information literacy competencies on college campuses, even as many are hesitant to accept the title of teacher. With inadequate instructional design preparation and one-shot sessions serving as a popular, if limited, instructional medium, librarians’ design processes are often developed on the job and infrequently explored in the literature. Previous research has examined specific design models and instructional strategies, but no studies were found that determined how academic librarians select and implement these design decisions within the unique context of a one-shot.

This study sought to investigate the availability and utilization of e-resources in university libraries for effective research output by undergraduates of Social Studies in south-east, Nigeria. It is a descriptive survey research design. two research questions guided the study. A sample of 191 students from four stratified randomly selected universities in south east, Nigeria, were used for the study. The instrument for data collection is the researcher’s designed and validated questionnaire, tagged: ‘The Use of E-Resources in University Libraries Questionnaire’ (UERULQ). No Textbook Cost General Education Pathway: An Effort To Increase Retention At Central Washington University, Maura Valentino, Geri Hopkins

Purpose
This study aims to describe a project that aims to give students a choice to complete their general education requirements without purchasing a textbook.
Design/methodology/approach
In total, 26 faculty, teaching in the new general education curriculum, at Central Washington University were given stipends to eliminate expensive textbooks and use free to the student resources such as open educational resources (OER) or library resources. The data was collected on student savings and student and faculty satisfaction with the program.
Findings
Many paths were created through the general education curriculum, so a student may easily finish these requirements without purchasing a …

There are many sources of Islamic economic thought left by Muslim Scholars. For decades, contemporary Muslim economists have been trying to explore and examine the contribution of Muslim Scholars. Among the efforts is to produce the book of the history of Islamic economic thought (HIET) either by thematic approach or by a personal approach. Small liberal arts colleges often showcase high impact practices like student-faculty research and service learning on their websites. But too often these opportunities are limited to only a few exceptional students on a given campus. Libraries can help provide their communities with more opportunities for students to engage in high impact practices through practicums. Lewis & Clark’s Watzek Library has offered practicums in exhibit creation, software development, archival processing, oral history, data curation and other activities. The practicums are faculty-sponsored and library-led and give the student a mentored practical and intellectual experience. Depending on the practicum, they can involve writing, …

Mysteries of Murdock began as an in-person Pacific Northwest themed mythbusting event for first-year students, helping them feel comfortable in library facilities and with library resources. In light of Fall 2020, we were challenged to reach this population with an excellent online alternative. The offering of Writing-Intensive Courses is a High-Impact Practice familiar on most college campuses, including Seattle Pacific University’s. In his description of this HIP, author George Kuh states that “the effectiveness of this [writing] practice has led to parallel efforts in such areas as information literacy.” Here is the point at which librarians at SPU have stepped in to craft an innovative campus partnership, realigning our services to bring optimum success to our students. Service-Learning is an experiential educational practice where students participate in a service project tied closely with course concepts. In Spring of 2019, the presenters co-taught a course as part of the SPU Library’s Information Studies minor. This course utilized service-learning as a framework to understand the ways in which information (especially access to information and information technologies) affects those living in the local Seattle area. In partnership with the City of Seattle, students read and scored grant applications from local organizations working on digital equity projects. Student employment in academic libraries mirrors many of the characteristics and positive aspects of high impact practices.
The University of Oregon Libraries is at the beginning stages of re-framing their library student employment experience as a high impact practice. Currently, the UO Libraries are having internal discussions, identifying student employment learning outcomes, and building relationships with campus stakeholders. Additionally, the UO Libraries is working with campus institutional research to pull datasets that may connect library student employment to broader student success metrics such as student retention.

This lightning talk will introduce attendees to Western Libraries’ Integrated Academic Literacies Practicum, a 1-credit course designed to help underserved students build agency over their learning and empower participation in academic discourse. Through a partnership with the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio, this course pairs students with peer mentors who provide long-term scaffolding in a variety of academic literacies, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and research. Students determine their learning goals at the beginning of the quarter (usually based on their coursework) and meet weekly with a peer mentor to practice and reflect on strategies for making progress towards those …

High-impact educational practices (HIPs)—as identified by George Kuh and the Association of American Colleges & Universities (2008)—are widely recognized as activities that promote student engagement, student retention, and positive student learning outcomes. How these eleven practices are implemented may vary some, depending on institutional context and priorities, as well as on the learners themselves, but are all meant to create substantive activities that deepen student learning, engagement, and success.
