Leading Firms As Knowledge Gatekeepers In A Networked Environment, Deogratias Harorimana Mr
Leading Firms As Knowledge Gatekeepers In A Networked Environment, Deogratias Harorimana Mr
Dr Deogratias Harorimana
This chapter introduces the role of the knowledge gatekeeper as a mechanism by which knowledge is created and transferred in a networked environment. Knowledge creation and transfer are essential for building a knowledge based economy. The chapter considers obstacles that inhibit this process and argues that leading firms create a shared socio-cultural context that enables the condivision of tacit meanings and codification of knowledge. Leading firms act as gatekeepers of knowledge through the creation of shared virtual platforms. There will be a leading firm that connects several networks of clients and suppliers may not interact directly with one another, but …
The Interactive Research Guide: Will Function Bring Users Content? A Project Model Illustrated By A Proposed Paper-Writing Guide, Barry J. Bailey
The Interactive Research Guide: Will Function Bring Users Content? A Project Model Illustrated By A Proposed Paper-Writing Guide, Barry J. Bailey
Library Papers and Presentations
After reviewing the history of subject guides and their movement into an electronic format, their is an opportunity to change the format of information providing. Whereas a user goes to guides for lists of content, perhaps a user can go to guides to execute a function. By walking through the creation of a paper-writing guide, this idea of a functioning guide is illustrated.

Knowledge-Based Information Resource Management System For Materials Of Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor, Sean Hsieh
Knowledge-Based Information Resource Management System For Materials Of Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor, Sean Hsieh
Reactor Campaign (TRP)
In the development of advanced fast reactors, materials and coolant/material interactions pose a critical barrier for higher temperature and longer core life designs. For advanced burner reactors (sodium cooled) such as EBR-II and FFTF, experience has shown that the qualified structural materials and fuel cladding severely limits the economic performance. In other liquid metal cooled reactor concepts, advanced materials and better understanding and control of coolant and materials interactions are necessary for realizing the potentials.
Liquid sodium has been selected as the primary coolant candidate for Gen. IV nuclear energy systems. Global Nuclear Partnership (GNEP) Advanced Burned Reactor (ABR) has …
Towards A Business Model For Cellular Network And Telecommunication Operators: A Theoretical Framework, Mutaz M. Al-Debei, Ramzi El-Haddadeh, David Avison
Towards A Business Model For Cellular Network And Telecommunication Operators: A Theoretical Framework, Mutaz M. Al-Debei, Ramzi El-Haddadeh, David Avison
Dr. Mutaz M. Al-Debei
Cellular networks and telecommunications bring major change to the way businesses are conducted. Mobility has become one of the main priorities for users and this has impacted on cellular networks and telecommunication operators (CNTOs). However, entrants into the cellular industry have been confounded primarily by inexistent or weak Business Models (BMs). Designing a BM for a CNTO is complex and requires multiple actors to balance different and often conflicting design requirements. Nevertheless, most research about CNTOs has been technically oriented and has mainly addressed the technological and engineering issues related to their infrastructure. Less attention has been given to the …

Defining The Business Model In The New World Of Digital Business, Mutaz M. Al-Debei, Ramzi El-Haddadeh, David Avison
Dr. Mutaz M. Al-Debei
Recent rapid advances in ICTs, specifically in Internet and mobile technologies, have highlighted the rising importance of the Business Model (BM) in Information Systems (IS). Despite agreement on its importance to an organization’s success, the concept is still fuzzy and vague, and there is no consensus regarding its definition. Furthermore, understanding the BM domain by identifying its meaning, fundamental pillars, and its relevance to other business concepts is by no means complete. In this paper we aim to provide further clarification by first presenting a classification of definitions found in the IS literature; second, proposing guidelines on which to develop …
Expert System Design Guide For Lower Classification Roads Over High Pi Clays, Yaqi Wanyan
Expert System Design Guide For Lower Classification Roads Over High Pi Clays, Yaqi Wanyan
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
This research was focused on low-volume roads over expansive clayey soils in Texas. In spite of the redundant pavement designs recommended and widely used in Texas for roads in high PI clay areas, these pavements often fail prematurely. This failure occurs primarily because of the highly variable properties of the clayey subgrade throughout the year due to moisture fluctuations. The problematic nature of high PI clays, despite the fact that volumetric changes such as heaving are sometime considered in the design, is of concern since they contribute to roughness and longitudinal shrinkage cracking of the road, and as such the …
Spotlight On Construction: Expansion And Renovation Of Georgia Southern University’S Henderson Library Spurred By Quintupling Of Student Body, Ann Hamilton, Mark Holland
Spotlight On Construction: Expansion And Renovation Of Georgia Southern University’S Henderson Library Spurred By Quintupling Of Student Body, Ann Hamilton, Mark Holland
Georgia Library Quarterly
The article reports on the expansion and renovation of Georgia Southern University's Henderson Library. The Zach S. Henderson Library has been the hub of academic life at Georgia Southern University for more than 30 years. The library has been the focus of an extensive expansion and renovation to help meet the needs of the university's growing student body. The first phase of the $22.75 million project opened on October 1, 2006. The original building included 109,515 square feet of space. The additional building will feature seating on the first, second and third floors and a balcony on the fourth floor …

Spotlight On Construction: St. Simons' Library Welcomed 70th Anniversary In New Facility
Georgia Library Quarterly
The article announces the grand opening event of the St. Simons Public Library in Georgia in January 2007. The library also celebrated its 70th anniversary on March 16. According to Libby Hogan, chair of the library's board of directors, they have 1,200 extra square feet of space in the renovated building. St. Simons joined the Three Rivers Public Library System (TRRLS) and PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services), bringing its patrons access to more than 8.5 million items owned by other PINES member libraries. The library currently has approximately 35,000 volumes, according to manager Maureen Hersey.

Knowledge-Based Information Resource Management System For Materials Of Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor, Sean Hsieh
Reactor Campaign (TRP)
In the development of advanced fast reactors, materials and coolant/ material interactions pose a critical barrier for higher temperature and longer core life designs. For sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs) such as the Experimental Breeder Reactors in Idaho and the Fast Flux Test Facility in Hanford, experience has shown that qualified structural materials and fuel cladding severely limits their economic performance.
Liquid sodium has been selected as the primary coolant candidate for the Advanced Burner Reactor (ABR) of the Global Nuclear Partnership (GNEP). Materials improvement has been identified as a major thrust to improve fast reactor economics. Researchers from universities, national …
