It Takes A Villa: Building Information Literacy Into First-Year Media Arts Courses, Christina Dent, Michelle Li, Natalie Hill

Discover how librarians can organize and deliver faculty development in a virtual setting. The Virtual Information Literacy Library Atelier (VILLA) program includes designing inclusive assignments for foundational visual media arts courses using the new ACRL Framework for Visual Literacy in Higher Education, co-creating library interventions with faculty, and assessing impact on student learning. Presenters will show how this program came to be, the curriculum development process, assessment data, and lessons learned. Presenters will also illustrate the challenges and opportunities of designing a virtual learning experience as a remote team with changing membership and the ongoing sustainability of the program.

This study aims to investigate the response of Visual art teachers to educational lockdown and shift to online learning at art institutions. The study employed qualitative phenomenological research design to investigate visual artists i.e., painters, sculptors, textile designers, graphic designers, and performing artists who were faculty members in five leading art institutions of Lahore. Data were collected by conducting a total of 15 interviews from each mentioned discipline. These interviews were conducted preferably in their studios, at their homes, or at times online through WhatsApp video calls. The data was analyzed thematically by using NVIVO 12 software.

This article describes an active-learning exercise intended to help teach copyright, fair use, and Creative Commons licenses. In the exercise students use a worksheet to draw original pictures, create derivative pictures on tracing paper, select Creative Commons licenses, and explore commercial usage, fair use, and copyright infringement. Librarian-instructors may find the completed worksheets to be useful aids to supplement copyright lectures; student perspectives will be integral because they are generating the examples used in discussion. Many also have relationships with groups of people whose items or artworks are housed within their institutions. This paper explores the relationship between museums and Northwest Coast Native Americans and their artists. An activity often reserved for children, coloring books for adults rose from hipster trend to global phenomenon beginning in 2013. Adults flocked to the activity for a variety of reasons, including stress relief, socialization, a way to unplug from technology or even as a way to gain social status by appearing trendy. On June 8, 2015, the intact and reconstructed vessels from the George C. Davis site (41CE19) were scanned (3D) in advance of an analysis of 3D geometric morphometrics. These data were collected using a Creaform GoSCAN50 running VXElements via the scanner direct control function in Geomagic Design X. The Elizabeth Thoman Archive at the Harrington School of Communication and Media, University of Rhode Island, has the last complete kit of one of the milestones in the early chronology of media literacy, the 1972 Media Now curriculum. This curriculum was the first of its kind, using self-contained lesson modules that were part of a larger series of kits, text references, and accompanying workbook. Its self-directed learning model gave students the opportunity to learn about the media, by doing, responding to, and reflecting on core concepts of media production. The article presents a case study of using student art as decoration at the College of the Holy Cross. The College's library was undergoing some construction and as a result the Atrium, one of the most aesthetically pleasing features of the library, was boarded up. Cristi Rinklin, a visual arts assistant professor, coordinated a final project for her students of a course on the principles of color theory to create artwork through scientific inspiration which was then turned to wallpaper.
