The Machines Aren’T Taking Over (Yet): An Empirical Comparison Of Traditional, Profiling, And Machine Learning Approaches To Criterion-Related Validation, Kristin S. Allen, Mathijs Affourtit, Craig M. Reddock Dec 2020

The Machines Aren’T Taking Over (Yet): An Empirical Comparison Of Traditional, Profiling, And Machine Learning Approaches To Criterion-Related Validation, Kristin S. Allen, Mathijs Affourtit, Craig M. Reddock

Personnel Assessment and Decisions

Criterion-related validation (CRV) studies are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of selection procedures. However, traditional CRV studies require significant investment of time and resources, as well as large sample sizes, which often create practical challenges. New techniques, which use machine learning to develop classification models from limited amounts of data, have emerged as a more efficient alternative. This study empirically investigates the effectiveness of traditional CRV with a variety of profiling approaches and machine learning techniques using repeated cross-validation. Results show that the traditional approach generally performs best both in terms of predicting performance and larger group differences between candidates …

Measurement Of Nontheistic And Theistic Spirituality: Initial Psychometric Qualities Of The Inclusive Spiritual Connection Scale, Valerie M. Hoots Dec 2020

Measurement Of Nontheistic And Theistic Spirituality: Initial Psychometric Qualities Of The Inclusive Spiritual Connection Scale, Valerie M. Hoots

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Spirituality represents a key part of life for the majority of U.S. adults and there is a growing body of research supporting relationships between spirituality and numerous health outcomes. Governing healthcare organizations have acknowledged the role religiousness and spirituality play in comprehensive and holistic patient care. While the U.S. shows documented trends towards diverse expressions of spirituality, existing theory-driven measures of spirituality are largely theocentric. The current study concludes a multiphase project that aimed at the outset to develop an inclusive measure of spirituality and establish initial psychometric evidence, validating its use across both theistic and nontheistic spiritual populations. The …

Assessing Complete Street Strategies Using Microscopic Traffic Simulation Models, Bernice Liu, Alireza Shams, Jonathan Howard, Serena Alexander, Alex Hughes, Anurag Pande Jun 2020

Assessing Complete Street Strategies Using Microscopic Traffic Simulation Models, Bernice Liu, Alireza Shams, Jonathan Howard, Serena Alexander, Alex Hughes, Anurag Pande

Mineta Transportation Institute Publications

Authors of this research developed a traffic simulation model for the downtown San Jose network and evaluated five different street redesign and travel demand combinations. This model aids understanding of network-wide effects of changes in street design for local and regional agencies who are interested in implementing complete streets and/or one-way to two-way conversion. The base network may be altered to model and evaluate other complete streets (e.g., road diet) and tactical urbanism (e.g., farmer’s market on city streets on certain days of the week) scenarios. The 3-dimensional animated videos for each scenario are also created to be used for …

Narcissism And Attachment Anxiety Predicting The Impact Of Hiding Instagram “Likes” In Canada, Madeleine T. Visca May 2020

Narcissism And Attachment Anxiety Predicting The Impact Of Hiding Instagram “Likes” In Canada, Madeleine T. Visca

Undergraduate Honours Theses

The social networking site, Instagram, made the decision to hide publicly viewable “likes” from users in Canada in the Spring of 2019. The current study was designed to examine whether levels of trait narcissism and peer attachment anxiety in adolescence predict satisfaction with the decision to hide publicly viewable likes on Instagram and authenticity in Instagram use since the implementation of this decision. Participants (21.7% male, 78.3% female, M = 1.78, SD = .41) first completed The Narcissistic Personality Inventory for Children, then The Peers Attachment Scale, followed by scales I created to measure satisfaction with, authenticity of, and use …

Content Validity Evaluation Of An Unnamed National Professional Organization Certification Exam, Sean Tate Apr 2020

Content Validity Evaluation Of An Unnamed National Professional Organization Certification Exam, Sean Tate

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Department of Psychological Sciences Western Kentucky University There are three validation strategies utilized for evaluating tests, content validity, construct validity, and criterion-related validity. Each of these methods serves a different and unique purpose when it comes to the validation of tests. Content validity pertains to whether the content measured by the test is representative of the content domain. Verifying content validity is a multi-step process involving conducting a job analysis, identifying content domains, creating test specifications, creating test items, and then conducting analyses to identify whether or not the test items are representative and in accordance with the test specifications. …

Construction And Preliminary Validation Of The Interrai 0-3 Developmental Domains, Jo Ann M. Iantosca Mar 2020

Construction And Preliminary Validation Of The Interrai 0-3 Developmental Domains, Jo Ann M. Iantosca

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Background. With no standardized approach for early assessment of childhood development in Canada, and with a lack of a comprehensive assessment-to-intervention system that amalgamates social, psychiatric, medical, functional, psychological, and environmental constructs, the interRAI 0-3 was developed to support intervention efforts based on the needs of young children and their families. The interRAI 0-3 includes over 650 items that seek clinical information, developmental milestones, and context items regarding the family and social relationships surrounding the child. The newly developed interRAI 0-3 was most recently evaluated to examine the reliability and validity of the Expressive and Receptive Language and the Gross …

Norming The Peterson Assertiveness Questionnaire, Haley Peterson, Carrie Lewis Miller Jan 2020

Norming The Peterson Assertiveness Questionnaire, Haley Peterson, Carrie Lewis Miller

IT Solutions Publications

An assertiveness measure was developed based on the Mind Tools framework for fostering assertive behaviour (‘How to be Assertive,’ n.d.). Previous research supports the elements within the Mind Tools framework, but none has been conducted on Mind Tools specifically. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to first verify the construct, and then test the questionnaire based on that framework for its psychometric properties as well as norm the measure. Questions developed ranged from passive in nature to aggressive with varying informants. The construct was validated through a Principle Components Analysis. The measure was normed using pilot testing and a …

Objective

The present study aimed to determine whether the momentary severity of women's somatic symptoms was concurrently and prospectively associated with their engagement in binge eating in naturalistic settings.

Method

Thirty women (Mage = 34.13, SD = 13.92) who had engaged in binge eating at least once over the month prior to study entry completed a 14-day ecological momentary assessment (EMA) protocol. During each of the 14 days, participants received five semi-random surveys via text message that assessed momentary somatic symptom severity (i.e., headaches, stomachaches/pain, chest/heart pain, faintness/dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue) and disordered eating behaviors. Generalized estimating equations …

Effects Of Category Aggregation On Land Change Simulation Based On Corine Land Cover Data, Orsolya Gyöngyi Varga, Robert Gilmore Pontius, Zsuzsanna Szabó, Szilárd Szabó Jan 2020

Effects Of Category Aggregation On Land Change Simulation Based On Corine Land Cover Data, Orsolya Gyöngyi Varga, Robert Gilmore Pontius, Zsuzsanna Szabó, Szilárd Szabó

Geography

Several factors influence the performance of land change simulation models. One potentially important factor is land category aggregation, which reduces the number of categories while having the potential to reduce also the size of apparent land change in the data. Our article compares how four methods to aggregate Corine Land Cover categories influence the size of land changes in various spatial extents and consequently influence the performance of 114 Cellular Automata-Markov simulation model runs. We calculated the reference change during the calibration interval, the reference change during the validation interval and the simulation change during the validation interval, along with …
