How To Create A Stunning Video Orientation By Hand, Rachel S. Evans

This article describes the multi-faceted approach UGA Law Library took with their fall 2018 first year student orientation. It describes the process of the creating a virtual tour experience, pairing it with a hybrid face-to-face event, and assessing the impact of all aspects of the orientation. The creation of the video itself involved a multi-media approach using a combination of visual arts and technology to animate a product that has a longer expiration than traditional video or in-person library orientations offer.

Enhancing Veterans' Access To Stem Education And Careers: A Labor Market Analysis Of Veterans In The Stem Workforce - Infographic, Rosalinda Maury, Brice M. Stone, Nicholas Armstrong

This research brief presents key highlights on recent veteran participation in the STEM workforce drawing upon an analysis of the American Community Survey (2012-2016), led by the U.S. Census Bureau. From this data, the research team examined veteran participation across 49 distinct STEM occupations, which are grouped into the following five occupational clusters: Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Science, Life and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Supervisor/ Management of STEM occupations. Among other analyses, the research team identified year-over-year trends in veteran participation, geographic distribution, and comparisons to non-veterans across all STEM occupations.

School‐Level Body Mass Index Shapes Children's Weight Trajectories, Ashley W. Kranjac

BACKGROUND

Embedded within children's weight trajectories are complex environmental contexts that influence obesity risk. As such, the normative environment of body mass index (BMI) within schools may influence children's weight trajectories as they age from kindergarten to fifth grade.

METHODS

I use 5 waves of the ECLS‐K—Kindergarten Class 1998‐1999 data and a series of multilevel growth models to examine whether attending schools with higher overall BMI influences children's weight status over time.

Ddas: Crunching Data From The Database Of Demining Accidents, Hd-Aid

Global CWD Repository

In the database of demining accidents, injuries are classed as either Severe or Minor. Injuries likely to be life threatening, to require surgery or to result in permanent disability are rated as Severe. All others are rated as Minor. This distinction is for convenience and is not intended to reflect on the discomfort and/or hardship associated with the injury. In some cases, injuries were not recorded in detail but I have resisted the temptation to infer detail. Note that, in very severe injuries, only the most severe injury is generally recorded.

The Unemployment Rate For Post-9/11 Veterans: A Multivariate Statistical Evaluation Of American Community Survey Data, 2003–2015, M. Celada

This research has two objectives: to develop the case for examining Post-9/11 veteran unemployment through the prism of race and gender and to analyze Post-9/11 veteran unemployment, 2003-2015, through this demographic lens. First, it critically considers how entrenched normative assumptions and statistical methodologies for veteran unemployment analyses, largely irrespective of race, gender, and skill-biased technological change, impede the development of an alternate theoretical frame and analytical method to assess Post-9/11 veteran labor outcomes. As a result, scant information exists on the labor force outcomes of Post-9/11 veterans. David Hand and Lásló Mérő both grapple with the occurrence of seemingly impossible events in these two popular science books. In this comparative review, I describe the two books, and explain why I prefer Hand's treatment of the impossible.
