Without Local Newspapers, Can We Save Our Democracy? An Analysis Of Political Culture, Voter Turnout, And Civic Engagement, Julia Reinhard

Political Science & International Studies | Senior Theses

Journal of International and Global Studies

Our study tries to understand the phenomenon of Entrapment, which is an outcome of (a) security discourses that prioritize pre-emptive community strategies; (b) the ongoing military initiative of the Global War of Terror (GWOT); and (c) and the increased budgetary convergence of state agencies of the National Security Agency (NSA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the military, impacting the legal and court processes that indict “homegrown” terrorists. Cultural Identity And Ethnic Newspapers In Las Vegas, Paul J. Traudt, Michele A. Ferm Apr 2010

Cultural Identity And Ethnic Newspapers In Las Vegas, Paul J. Traudt, Michele A. Ferm

First phase results, reported last year, found ethnic radio and television in Las Vegas assimilated into larger, Anglo media business models despite programming that reinforced some aspects of ethnic cultures. This year we present second-phase results, assessing the role played by ethnic newspapers in the region. Analysis is …
