Can Mini Grant Programs Address Community Health Improvement Plans In Rural Areas? A Local Evaluation, Kelley Ditzel, Cameron Watts

Background: In the rural community of Hancock County, Georgia, it became apparent in the summer of 2017 that outside help was necessary to address the failing health and education problems plaguing this area. The North Central Health District received Healthcare Georgia Foundation grant leading to the creation of the Hancock Health Improvement Partnership (HHIP) composed of 11 community leaders who developed the Community Health Improvement Plan to positively impact their county.

Health Rocks! Program: The Association Of Youth Engagement With Program Outcomes, Sarah Taylor, Yan Xia, Anh Do, Shen Qin, Maria Rosario De Guzman

National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference

The Health Rocks! program aims to promote positive knowledge and attitudes towards substance-related risky behaviors among youth. This presentation will highlight findings from a quantitative study assessing the extent to which youths’ program engagement is associated with program outcomes. Implications are valuable to Extension personnel and other youth professionals for the design and implementation of future youth programs.

Background: Underserved subgroups face barriers when accessing behavioral healthcare. Local health departments (LHDs) are charged with “linking people to needed personal health services and assure the provision of healthcare when otherwise unavailable”.

Research Objectives: 1) To assess the extent to which LHDs implement and evaluate strategies to target the behavioral healthcare needs for the underserved populations; 2) To identify factors that are associated with these undertakings.
