The Data Framework: A Collaborative Tool For Assessment At The Unlv Libraries, Starr Hoffman, Ashley Hernandez-Hall Jan 2017

The Data Framework: A Collaborative Tool For Assessment At The Unlv Libraries, Starr Hoffman, Ashley Hernandez-Hall

Library Faculty Publications

Keeping track of the data that academic libraries capture is a massive task. The University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV) University Libraries developed a data framework as a tracking tool for data points. This framework is both a data dictionary and a manual that records data-gathering procedures. This ensures that the data is continually gathered and reported in the same way, and also ensures that institutional memory of those procedures is preserved, regardless of staff turnover. Additionally, the revised Data Framework, and the revision process, transformed staff attitudes about data reporting and strengthened the libraries' culture of assessment.

Healthcare professionals and lay people are challenged by the availability and plethora of health information particularly web based which has become increasingly important when diagnosing, advising of preventive measures and in prescribing future care. Access to accurate, reliable and current information in a useable format is becoming essential particularly at the point of care and if patients are to be part of that process.

Method: Three volunteers were observed carrying out three separate queries to better evaluate the search engine. Ease of access, user experience, relevance of results and an analysis of the usability method were evaluated. (Appendix 1 …

Mapping Collaboration In Veteran And Military Family Services: Preliminary Observations And Database Launch, Nicholas Armstrong, Ryan Van Slyke, Michelle Ibester, Bonnie Chapman

Institute for Veterans and Military Families

Starting in the summer of 2015, the IVMF research team took a first step to build a database of more than 70 veteran-serving organizational networks, collaborative initiatives, and higher education institutions active in veteran and military family research. This working paper officially lauches the project and summarizes preliminary data collection efforts, observations, and plans to develop the database into a public resource. Given the evolving and fluid nature of collaborative activities across the country, we aim for the database to serve as a ‘living tool’ that (1) facilitates learning and the diffusion of best practices between veteran and military family …

Tracking Trajectories: Charting Changes Of Late Archaic Shell Ring Formation And Use, Martin Peter Walker May 2016

Tracking Trajectories: Charting Changes Of Late Archaic Shell Ring Formation And Use, Martin Peter Walker

Masters Theses

For the past fifty years the shell rings of the North American, southeastern, Late Archaic period, have been a continuous object of archaeological research. They have been studied within contexts of the initial creation and use of ceramics in North America, mounding and monumentality of hunter-gatherers, early sedentism and social complexity, forager feasting, ritual, and ceremonialism, and human-environment interactions. The aim of this project was to bring together the cumulative data generated by this continuous research focus and centralize it within a single database, the Late Archaic Shell Rings Repository. In utilizing this consolidated data set, it is possible to …

Psychology Faculty Research and Publications

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neuropsychiatric disease characterized by a combination of motor and vocal tics. Deep brain stimulation (DBS), already widely utilized for Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, is an emerging therapy for select and severe cases of TS that are resistant to medication and behavioral therapy. Over the last two decades, DBS has been used experimentally to manage severe TS cases. The results of case reports and small case series have been variable but in general positive. The reported interventions have, however, been variable, and there remain non-standardized selection criteria, various brain targets, differences in hardware, as …

Maritime Accounts In The European Union: Coping With Limited Information, Regis Kalaydjian Feb 2016

Maritime Accounts In The European Union: Coping With Limited Information, Regis Kalaydjian

Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics

The European Commission's effort to define the scope and components of the maritime economy was initially motivated by the "Integrated Maritime Policy" (2007). This policy package, principally based on coastal environment protection, maritime safety and security, and the European marine observation and data network, also included the development of an EU-wide economic and social database on maritime activities. The IMP database (2009) used experience from EU member states in terms of maritime database development, and conversely was an opportunity to update national contributions.

Later, two other packages contributed to broadening EC's approach. 1) The "Marine Strategy Framework Directive" (2008) was …

Accessibility Of Vendor-Created Video Tutorials For People With Disabilities, Joanne Oud Jan 2016

Accessibility Of Vendor-Created Video Tutorials For People With Disabilities, Joanne Oud

Library Publications

Many video, screencast, webinar, or interactive tutorials are created and provided by vendors for use by libraries to instruct users in database searching. This study investigates whether these vendor-created database tutorials are accessible for people with disabilities to see whether librarians can use these tutorials instead of creating them in-house. Findings on accessibility were mixed. Positive accessibility features and common accessibility problems are described, with recommendations on how to maximize accessibility.

Compilation Of An Australian Database Of Manufactured And Packaged Food Products Containing Wholegrain Ingredients, Sayne Mam Dalton, Yasmine Probst, Marijka Batterham, Linda C. Tapsell

Dr Marijka Batterham

Comprehensive food databases are critical components of translational nutrition research. The food industry maintains proprietary data on the wholegrain content of manufactured food products which are available for collation. The aim of this study was to systematically collate wholegrain composition data on Australian manufactured and packaged food products. Wholegrain content data (g) per 100 g of product were retrieved from the Australian food industry via the representative body the Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council™, direct data transfer from food manufacturers and product packaging. Products were coded according to the food grouping hierarchy applied in the AUSNUT (Australian food and nutrient) …

A Thematic Study Of Islamic Perspectives In Scopus Indexed Articles. Implications On Medical Imaging., Zainul Ibrahim Zainuddin

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Discussions pertaining to the various Islamic dimensions are actively being undertaken in the media. Within the academic circle, journal articles are accepted as an effective media in the dissemination of knowledge. Articles with Islamic perspectives can be found in disciplines that include Medicine, Banking, Economics and Finance. However, there is little to suggest of the types and frequencies of Islamic perspectives in Medical Imaging. This paper attempts to fill the gap. The methodology involves the use of Scopus database and its interactive search facility. The justification of using Scopus is the user-friendliness of its search interface and the ability to …

The performance of the Social Work Abstracts (SWA) database has been examined multiple times over the past three decades. The current study is a replication within this line of research.

Method: Issue level coverage was examined for the same 33 SWA core journals and the same time period as our 2009 study.

Results: The mean percentage of issues missing in the current study was 20%. The mean percentage of issues missing in the current study was significantly greater than …

Updated Database Of Mexican States Gdp, Vicente German-Soto Jan 2015

Updated Database Of Mexican States Gdp, Vicente German-Soto

Vicente German-Soto

GDP Database of the Mexican States (1940-2013) at constant prices of 1993. They were estimated as in German-Soto (2005) for the 1940-1992 period. Between 1993 and 2006 they are official figures by INEGI: Sistema de Cuentas Nacionales. Since 2006 the base changed to 2008, therefore figures published in this database for 2007 to 2013 were estimated applying the rate of growth of the gross state product in base 2008 (of those years) on series at constant prices of 1993 since 2006. As a result, we have a homogenous database for the period 1940-2013 in prices of 1993. A project to …
