A Coastal Groundwater Management Model With Indian Case Study, Sudip Basack, Amartya Kumar Bhattacharya, Prabir Maity
A Coastal Groundwater Management Model With Indian Case Study, Sudip Basack, Amartya Kumar Bhattacharya, Prabir Maity
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
The complexity of the hydrogeological setup in coastal areas calls for the adoption of scientific groundwater management techniques. Excessive withdrawal of groundwater in coastal zones will lead to depression of the water table, with associated hazards such as putting the well out of use, rendering abstraction uneconomic with increased lift. A sustained regional groundwater drawdown below sea level runs the risk of saline water intrusion, even for confined coastal aquifers. Uncontrolled groundwater development may lead to reversal of the freshwater gradient, thereby resulting in saline water ingress into coastal aquifers. There are, however, several established methodologies to control and minimise …
Roles Of Social Media In Open Data Environments: A Case Study Of The 2014 Indonesian Presidential Election Voting Results, Uuf Brajawidagda, Akemi T. Chatfield
Roles Of Social Media In Open Data Environments: A Case Study Of The 2014 Indonesian Presidential Election Voting Results, Uuf Brajawidagda, Akemi T. Chatfield
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Open data initiatives are critical to open government policies which promote transparency, citizen engagement and collaboration. However, they face challenges in realizing their potential benefits through citizens' active engagement. Despite the sharp rise of social media use by governments or quasi-governmental organizations to engage citizens in transforming public service quality and offers, very little has been written on enabling roles of social media in influencing the outcome of open data initiatives. This research examines the potential enabling roles of social media in motivating and having citizens' engagement easier in open data environments. Specifically, we present social media use in supporting …
Agile Enterprise Architecture: A Case Of A Cloud Technology-Enabled Government Enterprise Transformation, Asif Qumer Gill, Steven Smith, Ghassan Beydoun, Vijayan Sugumaran
Agile Enterprise Architecture: A Case Of A Cloud Technology-Enabled Government Enterprise Transformation, Asif Qumer Gill, Steven Smith, Ghassan Beydoun, Vijayan Sugumaran
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Australian government enterprises have shown a significant interest in the cloud technology-enabled enterprise transformation. Australian government suggests the whole-of-a-government strategy to cloud adoption. The challenge is how best to realise this cloud adoption strategy for the cloud technology-enabled enterprise transformation? The cloud adoption strategy realisation requires concrete guidelines and a comprehensive practical framework. This paper proposes the use of an agile enterprise architecture framework to developing and implementing the adaptive cloud technology-enabled enterprise architecture in the Australian government context. The results of this paper indicate that a holistic strategic agile enterprise architecture approach seems appropriate to support the strategic whole-of-a-government …
Case Studies On Response Of Laterally Loaded Nonlinear Piles, Wei Dong Guo
Case Studies On Response Of Laterally Loaded Nonlinear Piles, Wei Dong Guo
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Closed-form solutions for laterally loaded free and fixed-head piles in elastic-plastic media have been developed and implemented into a spreadsheet program called GASLFP. Underpinned by a generic limiting force profile (LFP), the solutions offer an expeditious and sufficiently accurate method for predicting response of lateral piles. They also allow parameters to be deduced using measured pile response, as is evident in the study to date on -70 test (elastic) piles. The solutions also well capture the impact of structure nonlinearity of pile body by employing reduced pile bending stiffness (EpIp). The law of the reduction in EpIp, however, needs to …
Improved Workflow Modelling Using Role Activity Diagram-Based Modelling With Application To A Radiology Service Case Study, Nagesh Shukla, John Keast, Darek Ceglarek
Improved Workflow Modelling Using Role Activity Diagram-Based Modelling With Application To A Radiology Service Case Study, Nagesh Shukla, John Keast, Darek Ceglarek
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
The modelling of complex workflows is an important problem-solving technique within healthcare settings. However, currently most of the workflow models use a simplified flow chart of patient flow obtained using on-site observations, groupbased debates and brainstorming sessions, together with historic patient data. This paper presents a systematic and semi-automatic methodology for knowledge acquisition with detailed process representation using sequential interviews of people in the key roles involved in the service delivery process. The proposed methodology allows the modelling of roles, interactions, actions, and decisions involved in the service delivery process. This approach is based on protocol generation and analysis techniques …
Improving Online Banking Quality In Developing Nations: A Libyan Case, Fouad Elgahwash, Mark Freeman, Alison E. Freeman
Improving Online Banking Quality In Developing Nations: A Libyan Case, Fouad Elgahwash, Mark Freeman, Alison E. Freeman
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
While the global banking sector is one of the most up-to-date industries with regard to the use of the Internet and mobile technologies, developing countries (such as Libya) have not broadly adopted these technologies. For example, online banking is not offered or provided on a restricted basis by many banks in Libya. As developing countries now seek to catch up with the global environment, both banks and customers are likely to face challenges. Understanding the perceptions of customers with regard to online banking quality in developing countries is useful for informing future adoption strategies and hence improving relationships between banks …
