Analytics have become vital to exploring the use of websites in the library world. They allow us to discover who is using our sites, when they are using them, and how they are using them. I believe this data will only become more important as libraries continue to prove their worth in the digital world.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine recent trends that have affected University Presses. The increased reliance on digital resources and fiscal constraints within higher education has forced University Presses to re-evaluate their position with the scholarly communication system. Responses include an increased focus on partnerships, new forms of publication, changing business models, and better meeting customers’ needs.

Design/Methodology/Approach – The authors have reviewed publications on University Presses from the last five years and added their viewpoints on current and future trends.

For over a decade library literature has championed the benefits of open access institutional repositories. Many academic librarians and library administrators agree upon the idea of an open access institutional repository and have invested in running a repository. The open access movement has begun to change the landscape of research and scholarly publishing through mandates and shifting publisher policies. Despite the role of libraries in the open access movement, many librarians still need education on differing viewpoints, the vocabulary, and initiatives surrounding the movement. Recently, Wayne State University Librarians formed a Scholarly Communications team to introduce open access and scholarly communication reform. This team took a leadership role in educating liaison librarians, providing campus-wide workshops on research dissemination, and creating special open access week programming. How this was accomplished, the positive outcomes and future opportunities generated by these collective efforts will be discussed.

This panel session reports on a professional development workshop series to prepare librarians to assume a more engaged role in the university. The goal of the program is to re-examine the librarian’s role, focusing on the liaison role as the unifying agent to cultivate engagement with users through the teaching-learning process. Academic libraries support their universities' goals of developing and maintaining successful research programs. As the information landscape and researcher practices change, recognition of the library's role in supporting research may be diminishing. This article will explore some aspects of the academic research enterprise and identify opportunities libraries can use to position themselves as key members of the research enterprise as well as increase their visibility among the research community. Successful initiatives implemented at Wayne State University will be highlighted to illustrate strategies librarians can use at their own institutions.

Map It @ Wsu: Development Of A Library Mapping System For Large Academic Libraries, Paul Gallagher

The Wayne State University Library System launched its library mapping application in February 2010, designed to help locate materials in the five WSU libraries. The system works within the catalog to show the location of materials, as well as provides a web form for use at the reference desk. Developed using PHP and MySQL, it requires only minimal effort to update using a unique call number overlay mechanism. Building strong information partnerships is an essential first step to effective information literacy programs and services. A team of academic librarians is using a set of common strategies – assessment, advocacy and advertisement - to develop and enhance health information services and programs to an urban campus community and beyond.
