Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Entrepreneurship can be an indicator of the development of a country. Unfortunately, in Indonesia the number of entrepreneurs is still low. So, it needs to be efforts to optimize various fields that are integrated with entrepreneurship. One of the aspect is education that closely related to scientific research. The existence of indexing portal for scientific publications such as the Garuda portal, which optimizes the progress of information technology can help researchers not only in the academic world, the general public can obtain various data that can be used as a basis for developing programs as a solutive form of problems …

Research Attitude And Capabilities Of Selected Academic Librarians Towards Preparation In Conducting Research, Creasel Sison
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The library is a growing micro-organism. Over time, it changes and updates its services depending on the present scenario, expectations of clients and the most “in” mode of delivery of services. There is really a great need for library researchers especially that libraries need to stay relevant to the clients. Many librarians see the importance of research, however many also experience difficulty on research. Despite these circumstances, only few consider this as starting point to study the librarians’ attitude and capabilities on research to determine areas for improvement. The study assessed the research attitude and capabilities of librarians from selected …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Number of journals is raising exponentially. Consequently authors have a problem which journal to select when publishing their research. Journal portfolios including information like impact factors and productivity trends, state of the art topics, topics evolution and citation patterns might help authors to select the journal where their paper will have optimal chances to be published, read and cited. To build portfolios we used two approaches; namely descriptive bibliometric analysis to extract distribution of types of documents, most prolific authors, institutions, countries, citation histories, etc. and bibliometric mapping to visualize the content
Our study showed that journals portfolios can improve …

Applying Evidence-Based Research Principles In Review Design: Supporting Graduate And Faculty Research In The Life Sciences, Chris Fournier, Kate Ghezzi-Kopel
Upstate New York Science Librarians Conference
The reproducibility crisis in published scientific work is changing the way that research is designed and conducted. Librarians in academic institutions can play a key role in promoting improved adherence to evidence-based guidelines for performing literature reviews. The Cornell Systematic Review Team has developed a checklist, https://osf.io/2edg9/?pid=ezqpd, that can be used in research consultations as a conversation framework when assisting patrons with review design. This checklist is informed by widely accepted best practices for development of a sound systematic review protocol. Discussing this checklist with patrons promotes increased transparency, reduction of bias, and improved reproducibility of graduate student and …

Changes In Scholarly Reading In Finland Over A Decade: Influences Of E-Journals And Social Media, Elina Late, Carol Tenopir, Sanna Talja, Lisa Christian
School of Information Sciences -- Faculty Publications and Other Works
Nationwide surveys of researchers in Finland in 2007 and 2016 distributed with the assistance of FinELib, the Finnish national consortium, show that researchers use a growing range of sources to find and access scholarly articles and that some reading patterns are changing. The percentage of articles found by searching and browsing are decreasing, while researchers are using more social ways to locate articles. Research social networking sites are rated as important to their work. They read more onscreen, although still print some material out for final reading. Reading patterns for books are different, as researchers still rely more on printed …

A Content Analysis Of Ethnic Minorities In The Professional Discipline Of Clinical Psychology, Pedro L. Perez Aquino
Theses and Dissertations
A more diverse population in the United States calls for the inclusion of REC minority populations in research to improve treatment and clinician cultural awareness. A content analysis is proposed to analyze the inclusion level of REC minority groups in the Journal of Clinical Psychology. Five questions are explored to organize and present the findings of the content analysis. Results demonstrate the low level of inclusion of REC minority groups as well as congruence between most studied topics and each REC minority group in the Journal of Clinical Psychology. These results should encourage researchers and clinicians to push for more …

Conceptions Of Research Among Academic Librarians And Archivists, Lise Doucette, Kristin Hoffmann
Western Libraries Publications
Academic librarians and archivists occupy a unique role as researchers and as practitioners who support faculty and student researchers. However, the ways in which librarians and archivists think about research is largely unexamined, while faculty conceptions of research have been studied extensively. In this study, we analyzed drawings and interviews of 25 Canadian academic librarians and archivists and identified six conceptions of research: research is a shared, community experience; research leads to learning and growth; research is influenced by personal and professional experience; research is a process involving interrelated components; research involves refining and answering a question; research by librarians …

The United States Print Media And Its War On Psychedelic Research In The 1960s, Jessica M. Bracco
The United States Print Media And Its War On Psychedelic Research In The 1960s, Jessica M. Bracco
The Exposition
The social climate of the 1960s denied the possible usefulness of psychedelics as drugs that could be considered therapeutic. The government attacked the research of psychedelics by demanding a stricter proof of efficacy, with the 1962 Kefauver Harris Amendments to FDA regulations, in order to conduct research on these drugs. Also, the government moved to classify these drugs as "Dangerous Drugs" making it a felony to manufacture, sell, possess, or consume these class of drugs. Furthermore, propaganda was spread to the American people, via the print media, claiming the proclivity of the drug for recreational use and the dangers this …

Promoting Discipline Specific Literacy For Law & Paralegal Studies Students: Libguides As Transitional & Professional Tools, Marissa Moran, Kimberly Abrams
Publications and Research
Developing LibGuides for Law and Paralegal Studies students at New York City College of Technology arose from the following question: how do we change the way legal studies students think of the Library as a resource to better assist them in their transition to college level-research and a future career as a paralegal. At the heart of this question is the importance of discipline-specific information literacy at the college and professional levels. Many students have difficulty with locating relevant information to complete course assignments partly because library resources are both fragmented and cohesive. Thus, while part of the transition to …

Research And Practice In Transition: Improving Support And Advocacy Of Transgender Middle School Students, Rebecca K. Lewis, Sabrina F. Sembiante
Middle Grades Review
In this essay, our purposes are to inspire particular avenues of future research addressing Transgender students, in middle school in particular, and to inform the professional development of teachers in support of these Transgender youth. In relation to the ways in which research can more authentically represent Transgender identity, we argue for the use of Transgender theory as a guiding framework for research addressing Transgender students, issues, and needs. We also describe the particular affordances of qualitative, ethnographic, and phenomenological studies in capturing the unique and highly personal experiences and realities of Transgender individuals, and specifically, in middle school. We …

The Qualitative Report
Involvement in research is increasingly playing a crucial role in the training of higher education students, however, there isn’t much found on the literature on this particular subject. The present study aims to gauge the participants’ perception of pedagogical and scientific contributions in the development of research projects, specifically in the elaboration of a Cognitive Stimulation Program. Procedures followed a qualitative approach trough an exploratory descriptive case study research. For data collection, a semi-structured interview, a focus group, with key informants, and a questionnaire, were used for a set of participants (students and a professor) of the third year of …
