Linking Library Resources To The Web Through Linked Data, Sankha Subhra Das, Arpita Roy Chowdhury

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The concept of linked Data and Semantic Web have been gaining importance to revolutionise the world of the internet. The idea behind Linked Data can be used to create a huge database of the Internet interlinked by relationships that will be easily understood by machines as well as humans. We tried to compare some libraries that have published their content via linked open data. The advantages and disadvantages have also been highlighted. libraries should benefit by adopting linked Data but there are many challenges that will come up in its implementation. The BIBFRAME Initiative is a possible framework that will …

Java Cds/Isis: A Rigorous Tool For Effective And Efficient Data Sorting, Saravanan T

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

An attempt has been triggered in this paper to slice the features of data sorting capabilities of UNESCO’s Java CDS/ISIS application (Saravanan, T. 2018b & 2018c). J-ISIS was initiated by UNESCO and further developed by Jean-claude Dauphin (2016). J-ISIS clears maximum WinISIS limitations and restrictions. J-ISIS includes the CDS/ISIS concepts to keep the assets and experience of the users. The effectiveness and efficiency of J-ISIS data sorting technique is evaluated in this paper. A bibliographic database comprising 1641 records is opted to test the J-ISIS sorting features. The database contains 17 fields, subfields and repeatable field. J-ISIS data sorting technique …

English Semantic Feature Production Norms: An Extended Database Of 4436 Concepts, Erin M. Buchanan, K.D. Valentine, Nicholas P. Maxwell

Student Publications

A limiting factor in understanding memory and language is often the availability of large numbers of stimuli to use and explore in experimental studies. In this study, we expand on three previous databases of concepts to over 4000 words including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and other parts of speech. Participants in the study were asked to provide lists of features for each concept presented (a semantic feature production task), which were combined with previous research in this area. These feature lists for each concept were then coded into their root word form and affixes (i.e., cat and s for cats) …

Regional Textile Production: Mapping The Pacific Northwest Fiber Network, Caroline Vogl

WWU Honors College Senior Projects

Inspired by the slow food movement, more people have started to question the source of their clothing and textiles due to the environmental and human rights abuses in the current global fashion industry. The Pacific Northwest in particular is a place where questions about textile production and sourcing have been raised and where many textile farmers, retailers and makers already exist. Currently there are many gaps in production and a lack of connection between the various players in this regional economy. The first step in creating a stronger regionally-based fiber economy is to connect the participants in this economy. To …

Large Expert-Curated Database For Benchmarking Document Similarity Detection In Biomedical Literature Search, Peter Brown, Relish Consortium, Yaoqi Zhou

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Document recommendation systems for locating relevant literature have mostly relied on methods developed a decade ago. This is largely due to the lack of a large offline gold-standard benchmark of relevant documents that cover a variety of research fields such that newly developed literature search techniques can be compared, improved and translated into practice. To overcome this bottleneck, we have established the RElevant LIterature SearcH consortium consisting of more than 1500 scientists from 84 countries, who have collectively annotated the relevance of over 180 000 PubMed-listed articles with regard to their respective seed (input) article/s. The majority of annotations were …
