A Review On Numerical Solutions To Self-Heating Of Coal Stockpile: Mechanism, Theoretical Basis, And Variable Study, Jian Zhang, Ting X. Ren, Yuntao Liang, Zhongwei Wang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Self-heating or even spontaneous combustion of stockpiled coal, which is likely to outbreak under favourable circumstances during its transport, process, and storage, is a long-standing thermal dynamic hazard. This hazard is harmful in diverse aspects: causing loss of coal resource and caking property, raising safety concerns upon occurrence of open fire, and giving off noxious/greenhouse effect gases. Due to the complexity of involved physical process (e.g. heat and mass transport) and chemical process (e.g. coal oxidation), formulating an analytical solution to the problem with or even without a transient approach would be a daunting task and the problem is thus …

Iterates Of Holomorphic Self-Maps On Pseudoconvex Domains Of Finite And Infinite Type In Cn, Tran Vu Khanh, Ninh Van Thu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Using the lower bounds on the Kobayashi metric established by the first author, we prove a Wolff-Denjoy-type theorem for a very large class of pseudoconvex domains in Cn. This class includes many pseudoconvex domains of finite type and infinite type.

Young's Modulus Measurement Using Fibre-Coupled Self-Mixing Laser Diode, Ke Lin, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi, Qinghua Guo, Jun Tong, Hui Jun Li

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A new fibre-coupled self-mixing laser diode is developed for measurement of Young's modulus. Instead of transmission in free space, the light path is coupled in a fibre, which enables the measuring system easily and feasibly to be installed in many application cases. A specimen made of aluminium alloy 6061 is tested by the system designed. The obtained value of Young's modulus is 70.02 GPa with 0.16% measurement accuracy, showing a high repeatability and a good agreement with the standard values reported in literatures.

Features Of A Self-Mixing Laser Diode Operating Near Relaxation Oscillation, Bin Liu, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi, Yuanlong Fan, Qinghua Guo, Jun Tong, R A. Lewis Jan 2016

Features Of A Self-Mixing Laser Diode Operating Near Relaxation Oscillation, Bin Liu, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi, Yuanlong Fan, Qinghua Guo, Jun Tong, R A. Lewis

When a fraction of the light reflected by an external cavity re-enters the laser cavity, both the amplitude and the frequency of the lasing field can be modulated. This phenomenon is called the self-mixing effect (SME). A self-mixing laser diode (SM-LD) is a sensor using the SME. Usually, such LDs operate below the stability boundary where no relaxation oscillation happens. The boundary is determined by the operation condition including the injection current, optical feedback strength and external cavity length. This paper discovers the features of an SM-LD where the LD operates beyond the stability boundary, that is, near the relaxation …

Rational And Self-Adaptive Evolutionary Extreme Learning Machine For Electricity Price Forecast, Chixin Xiao, Zhao Y. Dong, Yan Xu, Ke Meng, Xun Zhou, Xin Zhang Jan 2016

Rational And Self-Adaptive Evolutionary Extreme Learning Machine For Electricity Price Forecast, Chixin Xiao, Zhao Y. Dong, Yan Xu, Ke Meng, Xun Zhou, Xin Zhang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Electricity price forecast is of great importance to electricity market participants. Given the sophisticated time-series of electricity price, various approaches of extreme learning machine (ELM) have been identified as effective prediction approaches. However, in high dimensional space, evolutionary extreme learning machine (E-ELM) is time-consuming and difficult to converge to optimal region when just relying on stochastic searching approaches. In the meanwhile, due to the complicated functional relationship, objective function of E-ELM seems difficult also to be mined directly for some useful mathematical information to guide the optimum exploring. This paper proposes a new differential evolution (DE) like algorithm to enhance …
