The study examines Oceanography Research in India as revealed by the scholarly publication indexed in Aquatic Science and Fisheries Abstract (ASFA) data base for a period of fifteen years from 2008 to 2013. Researchers’ usage purposes of five social media were asked. Responses were analyzed quantitatively. Maximum (58%) respondents were highly familiar with social media. Facebook was at the top. A structured questionnaire was designed and personally distributed to 100 respondents over a period of seven months for the study. Responses present a dismal outlook of the libraries. Financial deficit and lack of computers, infrastructure and staff have stagnated the development of these libraries. These libraries continue to stand the same way as they stood 60 years before.

This paper presents a bibliometric study of Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Science. A total of 279 research articles and 575 authors were examined by growth of contributions by year and volume, authorship patterns by year and volume, authorship patterns, author productivity, single and multi authored papers by year, authorship patterns by global, most prolific contributors and degree of collaboration. The total number of publications contributed by the Indian authors in the Aquaculture journal was 374 during the study period 1972 – 2011. The highest numbers of papers were published during 2002 – 2006 with 103 contributions; especially in 2006 there were 47 contributions. The least number of papers was recorded during 1972 – 1976 with 9 contributions. The percentage of Indian contribution was 2.74. Overall, 1373 authors contributed 374 publications in the Aquaculture journal. Among these, two authored publications were 114 (30.48%), more than that of any other authorship pattern. For this study 10 volumes containing 48 issues have been taken up for evaluation. Necessary bibliometric measures are applied to analyse different publication parameters. In all 499 articles are published with an average 49 articles each year. The collaborative measures are calculated as per Ajiferuke et al (0.35), Lawani (2.28) and Subramanyam (0.65).
