Purpose: Our library staff has been partnering with faculty to develop curricula using simulation equipment for various outreach programs to youth in the state. The simulation center is housed and managed by our library. This presentation will recount the development and expansion of this two-year old program and describe its various components. This poster will examine the importance of networking public libraries with community hospitals for quality consumer health programming. The University of Iowa partnered with five communities in Iowa to provide a training program on patient safety for consumers. The project, Empowering Public Health / Patient Safety Outreach through Community was funded through a subcontract with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Greater Midwest Region. Presenters will describe the planning process, collaborative partnerships, and challenges encountered.

This case study will describe how the Stony Brook University Libraries instruction program partnered with another student support service (student computing office) to nurture a relationship with the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) over several years to provide their students with the library research and computer skills needed to succeed in college. EOP is a state-funded program aimed at economically disadvantaged students whose high school education has not fully prepared them for college success.

Interest in integrative health care is a growing area of health practice, combining conventional medical treatments with safe and effective complementary and alternative medicine. These modalities relate to both improving physical and psychological well-being, and enhancing conventional talk therapy. In an interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching and library faculty have created a series of sixteen on-line video interviews that introduce practitioner-relevant experiences to students as supplemental course material. When librarians apply critical pedagogy in a classroom, they can both impart knowledge and ignite breakthrough thinking among students. By partnering with professors and decentralizing the power in the classroom, librarians can tap into knowledge that students already possess and encourage them to express their own ideas. This article describes the process in a 200-level literature interpretation course taught primarily to English majors at Arcadia University.

In Fall 2009, the interactive information literacy module "integrity Quickstart"(iQ) was introduced to first and second-year students at Miami University. iQ, which teaches information literacy and academic integrity concepts using the dynamic Flash-based presentation tool Prezi, is a companion to the existing eScholar, a more passive, in-depth tutorial.

iQ was created through a unique campus collaboration between the Libraries, University IT and Student Affairs. This session will recount the creation and implementation of iQ, everything from scripting and storyboarding to grant support and dealing with differences of opinion involved with any collaboration. Creating workflows that involve the work of multiple departments within a large organization can be challenging, especially when the procedure itself is complex and involves a number of stakeholders. This paper describes and evaluates a collaborative project to develop an interdepartmental workflow for the digitization of unique library materials in a mid-sized academic library. The project includes an automated project management and materials tracking system. Project development involved three separate departments with different reporting channels. Distributed sensing systems for studying scientific phenomena are critical applications of information technologies. By embedding computational intelligence in the environment of study, sensing systems allow researchers to study phenomena at spatial and temporal scales that were previously impossible to achieve. We present an ethnographic study of field research practices among researchers in the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS), a National Science Foundation Science & Technology Center devoted to developing wireless sensing systems for scientific and social applications.
