We discuss a project they conducted to identify whether adding table of contents and analytics to certain materials in the collection would increase circulation. They selected monographic series in the Q classification that were titled separately and five or six large series in the Ps for analyzing. The work resulted in significant increases in circulation of the materials ( anywhere from 59% to 186%). The work was labor intensive, but the increased use of the materials made it certainly worthwhile.

The spread of sophisticated computer packages and the machinery on which to run them has meant that procedures which were previously only available to experienced researchers with access to expensive machines and research students can now be carried out in a few seconds by almost every undergraduate. Understanding and Using Advanced Statistics provides the basis for gaining an understanding of what these analytic procedures do, when they should be used, and what the results provided signify. This comprehensive textbook guides students and researchers through the transition from simple statistics to more complex procedures with accessible language and illustration.

Criminal Justice Faculty Publications and Presentations
This presentation describes the process and difficulties of developing a collaborative working relationship with Stephen C. Stanko, a man currently serving two death sentences in South Carolina for the murders of two people and the sexual assault and attempted murder of a third. Mr. Stanko and Dr. Gordon Crews first worked together on a book from 2000-2004 when Stanko was serving a 10-year sentence for kidnapping and assault with intent to kill. In April 2005, only 8 months after Stanko was released from that sentence, he committed the crimes for which he is currently facing death. Since then, the Crews’ …

Glocalization In Macedonia: English In Outdoor Advertising Messages, Pamela Morris
School of Communication: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Outdoor advertising visuals from Skopje, Macedonia are analyzed in a content analysis. Media and linguistic imperialism, globalization and glocalization, along with advertising and communication strategies, are used to frame the investigation. Findings show that media companies are the leading advertisers, along with banks and entertainment. The majority of ads employed some form of English, although Macedonian and Cyrillic writing were also used. The images revealed strategic use of language and symbols, depending on the product category, business …

Advanced Meeting Facilitation Techniques, Carol A. Watson, Wendy Moore
Advanced Meeting Facilitation Techniques, Carol A. Watson, Wendy Moore
Carol A. Watson
As many librarians learned in last year's AALL presentation on facilitation, a well-facilitated meeting can transform a regular work session into an extraordinarily productive event. Participants learned that a well-crafted agenda, thoughtful ground rules, optimal meeting space, and detailed minutes can all set the stage for a successful meeting. However, meetings can still go awry. A poorly facilitated meeting can make everyone dread meetings even if the meeting has been well-planned. Managing or facilitating behaviors is the final essential ingredient for success. Have you ever been in a meeting that is monopolized by one individual? Or someone offers a suggestion …
