This study investigated the effectiveness of improving performance of adolescents with the in-season Bigger Faster Stronger (BFS) program. Thirty seven high school athletes were divided into three groups; BFS (n=l4 ), traditional weight training (n= l0), and control (n= 13 ). Each participant went through a battery of seven performance pre-tests and post-tests ( estimated 1 ORM incline bench, broad jump, one minute sit-up test, t-test, line drill, 40 yard sprint, 1.5 mile run). An Analysis Of The Ideologies, Strategies And Applications Of Chess And Martial Arts With Respect To Transferable Skills, Torriente Toliver

Chess and martial arts are used to show how to transfer learned skills. Transferable skill is the process by which one uses a learned skill in a different situation. The artifact explains different ways to transfer skills to promote critical thinking. The artifact also shows how to apply the results of attempting to transfer skills to the original skill to enhance understanding of said skill. The artifact defines and describes multiple aspects of chess and martial arts such as tactics, strategy, and thinking. Critical thinking, not results, is the objective of the research.

The ancient Olympics are arguably the birthplace of sport and the Olympic Games remain the quintessential expression of international sport. The first recorded Olympic victor was a sprinter from Elis, Coroebus, in 776 B.C. and through Pausanias' travel logs and Pindar's Olympic odes, which first appeared in the 16th century, we have learned about the ancient Olympic Games: the events, the venues, its heroes, and rewards . The ancient games were discontinued in 394 A.D. after Theodosi us the Great decreed to stop measuring time by Olympiads and the Romans did not have the same religious respect for the games.

The purpose of this project was to examine and critically synthesize the factors affecting the success of student athletes in the classroom. An important part of this project was a critical examination of the support services such as mentoring, tutoring, counseling, and task orientation and other services that still need to be developed and implemented for those student athletes at the college level. A review of literature was used to examine factors affecting the academic success of college student athletes in the classroom.

Exploring The Relationship Between Parent Beliefs And Athletes' Perceptions: A Sport Commitment Approach, Heather M. Dewaard

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between parents' and gymnasts' perceptions on sport commitment constructs. The sport commitment model developed by Scanlan et al. (1993) provides a theoretical framework in which to explain why athletes participate. Two constructs in the sport commitment model, social constraints and support, represent the social influence factors which can be perceived as supportive or pressuring and may come from a variety of sources such as: parents, coaches, teachers, and peers.
