UNLV Basketball Programs

A Study Of Child Rearing Attitudes Among Negro Mothers Residing In A Low Status Neighborhood, Curtis J. Jones

Masters Theses

Introduction

The Problem

The problem in this investigation is to determine the characteristics of lower status Negro mothers and their families and to determine whether specific characteristics are associated with the utilization or acceptance of traditional or developmental child rearing attitudes. More specifically, this investigation will attempt to determine what cognate relationships prevail in the various segments of lower status Negro mothers with respect to their exhibiting traditional or developmental child rearing attitudes and their relative social status position, family composition, and mother's social contact frequency.

It appears that in order to make more reliable generalizations about the Negro families …

An Anthropometric Study Of The Face And Dentition Of The Pima Indian Population At The Stewart Indian School, Carson City, Nevada, Wilmonte Lee Penner

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Study casts and cephalograms were obtained on 18 female and 21 male Pima Indian students from the Stewart Indian Boarding School, Carson City, Nevada. Dentitional characteristics were assessed both clinically and by study casts. Cranio-facial analyses were performed by utilizing the skeletal and denture pattern variables suggested by the Downs and Riedel cephalometric analyses.

The purpose of this study was two-fold: (1) to determine the extent to which the Pima conforms to the Mongoloid master pattern, and (2) to test whether or not significant differences exist between the Pima and other Mongoloid groups which would allow discrimination.

The results of …

Concept Of Unity Among Indian Tribes Of Maine, New Hampshire And New Brunswick, Andrea Jeanne Bear May 1966

Concept Of Unity Among Indian Tribes Of Maine, New Hampshire And New Brunswick, Andrea Jeanne Bear

Senior Scholar Papers

The purpose in writing this ethnohistory was not to prove that the tribes in Maine, New Hampshire and New Brunswick were unified, but rather, to illustrate the extent to which they were unified. With this general end in mind, my research therefore could not follow only one line of inquiry. It had to be divided into various sub-topics to cover my various orientations to the problem. One of my first orientations was that of validating my belief in a former unity through fieldwork among the Indians involved. This orientation provided the basis for my first chapter, which was considerably augmented …

Navajo Student Food Preferences, Kathlyn L. Coffman

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Adapt -- “to make suitable to requirements; adjust or modify fittingly." Adaptability is a trait which has been attributed to Navajo Indians by anthropologists, educators, novelists, psychologists, artists -- in fact, by almost everyone who has had dealings with them over a period of time. Yet, to identify specific examples of their adaptability and the attempt to measure the effect upon interpersonal relations of evidences of adaptation has proved to be no easy task.

A Study Of The Writings Of Walter Rauschenbusch As Reflected In His Books On The Social Gospel, Natille Pierce Lindsey May 1966

A Study Of The Writings Of Walter Rauschenbusch As Reflected In His Books On The Social Gospel, Natille Pierce Lindsey

OBU Graduate Theses

Using primarily his five books on the social gospel movement, this study of Walter Rauschenbusch centered on the man as a writer and literary figure. A background investigation had revealed that there had been extensive studies of Rauschenbusch as a man, a preacher, a social critic, and a theological professor but not of his career or ability as a writer.

Since Rauschenbusch and his writings were so inextricably interwoven that one cannot be explained satisfactorily apart from the other, the social gospel movement of which he is sometimes called the father, was first examined in some detail. This study revealed …
