This workshop will identify participants' dominant personality styles utilizing the True Colors questionnaire developed by Don Lowry in 1978. To that end, there will be a discussion on each color's communication and leadership strengths, weaknesses, and stressors. This is a fun activity that requires movement and most people enjoy. Finally, participants will be paired up with rotating partners and given a departmental chair scenario wherein they need to communicate and lead by utilizing what they have learned about dealing with the personality types of the colors. Zero-tolerance became the rule in many school districts due to an increase in school-based violence, which served to silence student voices and led to the overrepresentation of minority students in discipline situations. Schools could adopt restorative approaches, but change cannot be sustained without fair processes at the district level. Thus, district policies should be aligned to restorative practices to increase the probability of district-wide success.

In an attempt to contribute to how ministries and Christian academia is addressing issues of diversity, I am conducting a study to analyze correlations between ethnicity and styles/values of leadership. The goal is to uncover whether or not a particular ethnicity generally prefers one style of leadership over another. Past research on the subject has already seen that, in the business world, certain practices work better than others. For example, those from an Asian culture are more likely to prefer formality and authority as opposed to the collaborative and relationship-oriented style of leadership found in America. Previous research indicated that there are 64 preferred leadership characteristics. These characteristics were derived from a review of the current literature on leadership, as well as focus groups and structured interviews. These characteristics can be grouped into 6 leadership styles: Imaginative, Constructive, Synergy, Principled, Virtuous, and Alpha Male. The current study aims to investigate how preference for these 6 leadership styles relates to political party affiliation.

Dallas Willard, Professor of Philosophy and Christian spiritual formation at USC, was known to define spiritual formation not as the summation of one’s good works and talents, but rather as a continual pursuit in modeling the character of Jesus Christ. This understanding of spiritual formation was applied to a group of first year students at Pepperdine University who were selected as students with high potential of becoming future leaders at Pepperdine. Chin and Trimble (2014) describe the need for a new culturally resonant model of leadership. A new model should present a more diverse and globally based perspective. Sixty-four characteristics of leadership were derived from both the current literature on leadership and from structured interviews and focus groups obtained from Western and non-Western samples. The current research is part of an ongoing study regarding cultural differences in what are believed to be the necessary characteristics of outstanding leadership. Participants included 90 students enrolled in a leadership courses at Western Washington University and Adelphi University. Participants completed an online survey in which …
