Effects Of The Step Parent Education Program On Parenting Styles And Reported Child Behavior Problems, Patty H. Lee Jul 1980

Effects Of The Step Parent Education Program On Parenting Styles And Reported Child Behavior Problems, Patty H. Lee

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Three groups of parents were given a nine week parent education course using Dinkmeyer and McKay's Systematic Training for Effective Parenting. Three control groups were given no training. Pretest and posttest data were obtained from all six groups to test the hypotheses: Training with the STEP program will change parent attitudes toward a less authoritarian parenting style, and these changes will result in fewer problems reported by the parents in child behavior. Using Ernhart and Loevinger's Authoritarian Ideology Scale no significant differences in authoritarianism were found after training [F(1,5) = 2.45, p = .123]. Using McKay's ...

Prediction Of Football-Playing Ability In Spring Training Tryouts Through The Use Of Psychobiomotor Assessment, Michael D. Secunda

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Psychobiomotor assessment refers to the use of a combination of psychological, biological, and motor-performance tests to comprehensively analyze the skills, attributes, and performance capabilities of athletes. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that there are significant psychobiomotor differences between successful collegiate football players in the offensive backfield positions and those players who are rates as less successful in these positions. Subjects were 19 male volunteer tryouts (mean age = 20.5) for the positions of quarterback and halfback on the inaugural University of Central Florida football team. They were assessed on the physiological variable anaerobic capacity, they ...

Role Ambiguity, Role Conflict, Type A-B Behavior, Job Performance, And Psychosomatic Dysfunction, John Steven Mattone

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The main purpose of the present study was to determine empirically whether differences in perceived role conflict, role ambiguity, and Type A proclivities are associated with differences in perceived psychosomatic dysfunction. Moreover, an ancillary purpose of the present study was to determine whether differences in perceived job performance were associated with Type A-B tendencies and perceived role conflict and ambiguity. Data for 72 workers from all levels of two types of organizations (i.e., citizen protection and health) were obtained. All workers completed a role conflict and ambiguity measure, a 15-item self-report index of psychosomatic dysfunction, a 7-poimt measure of ...

The Comparative Effects Of Self-Evaluation And Self-Reinforcement Training In The Treatment Of Depression, David P. Tressler

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Rehm's self-control model of depression was evaluated by dismantling the self-control therapy into separate therapies based on self-monitoring plus self-evaluation and self-monitoring plus self-reinforcement training respectively. Seventeen volunteer female subjects selected on the basis of MMPI, Beck Depression Inventory and interview criteria were randomly assigned to the two conditions for six weekly therapy sessions. Results showed significant treatment effects on level of depression, overall pathology, behavioral ratings of verbal response levels and activity reinforcement potential. Separate comparisons of ratings of current functioning and performance criteria yielded significant effects on ratings of current functioning in favor of the self-monitoring plus ...

Correlates Of Marginality: Toward A Clarification Of The Concept Of Marginality , Dennis Oliver Kaldenberg Jan 1980

Correlates Of Marginality: Toward A Clarification Of The Concept Of Marginality , Dennis Oliver Kaldenberg

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation is a quantitative and theoretical discussion of marginality. Marginality, according to Robert Merton, is the condition of being ineligible for membership in a group in which membership is sought. Using this definition, a study is made of a class of conditionally and unconditionally admitted law students at a Midwestern law school. The conditional students are considered marginal because they do not meet the eligibility requirements necessary for unconditional admission; The hypotheses for this study were generated from an earlier field study of this group of law students. The hypotheses predict a positive relationship between marginality and powerlessness, normlessness ...

Groundwater Mining In The Ogallala Aquifer In Relation To Rising Energy Prices And Agricultural Production , Charles Cameron Short Jan 1980

Groundwater Mining In The Ogallala Aquifer In Relation To Rising Energy Prices And Agricultural Production , Charles Cameron Short

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The last four decades have seen extensive development of irrigation using groundwater from the Ogallala Aquifer in the Mid-continental High Plains area (Ogallala Zone). But water withdrawn is depleting groundwater stocks causing the water table to fall. Crop production with pumped water is energy intensive and increasing energy prices weakens the competitive positions of irrigators from the aquifer relative to farmers in the rest of the nation. These issues are of concern to the entire region because local economies throughout the area are closely linked with primary agricultural production;A recursive, regional, linear programming model was constructed to evaluate effects ...

The Structure Of Prices Between The Futures And Cash Markets For 90-Day Treasury Bills , Timothy Jameson Lord Jan 1980

The Structure Of Prices Between The Futures And Cash Markets For 90-Day Treasury Bills , Timothy Jameson Lord

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

With the inception of futures trading in thirteen-week Treasury bills, market participants have the opportunity to buy or sell Treasury bills for future delivery at prices specified in the current period. Ninety-day bills issues in the cash market each week by the U.S. Treasury represent the only financial instrument deliverable on the contract;Given this unique institutional arrangement, an understanding of the structural price relationship between the futures and cash markets becomes important for economic planning and policy making. For example, futures prices quoted on the International Monetary Market provide information regarding the market's expectations of prices and ...

Estimated Impacts Of A Land Set-Aside Policy On United States Agriculture In 1985: A Quadratic Programming Analysis , Albert Essel Jan 1980

Estimated Impacts Of A Land Set-Aside Policy On United States Agriculture In 1985: A Quadratic Programming Analysis , Albert Essel

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Agricultural policy makers in the United States have become increasingly concerned with several facets of economic and structural developments in American agriculture. Over most of the last fifty years, technological innovations and various input substitutions have combined to bring about enormous increases in food supply. At this same period, the important characteristics that influence domestic demand of farm products such as prices and income elasticities of demand and population growth have been declining or growing at very slow rates. The interaction of these have resulted in lowered food prices, depressed farm incomes, labor migration and pressures on the rural community ...

Competitive Partial Equilibrium Analysis Of U.S. Agriculture Under Alternative Energy And Export Situations - Application Of Separable And Chance Constrained Programming , Ashok Kumar Chowdhury

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

As an energy source for machinery operations, irrigation, crop drying and manufacture of fertilizer and agricultural chemicals, fossil fuels form a critical group of inputs in crop production. In the United States, agricultural exports are becoming increasingly important in balancing trade deficits caused by imported energy. A national quadratic programming model is used in this study to analyze the impact of alternative energy price and agricultural export situations on U.S. agriculture in the year 1985. The model is solved by using separable programming. Uncertainty incorporated in export, the model also is solved under a chance constrained programming framework. The ...

The Impact Of Minimum Wages On Adult Female Employment And Labor Force Participation , Teresa Marie Long Jan 1980

The Impact Of Minimum Wages On Adult Female Employment And Labor Force Participation , Teresa Marie Long

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study attempts to theoretically and empirically examine if minimum wage legislation alters the employment and labor force participation of women age twenty and older. The theoretical and empirical analyses are based on a combination of the labor force participation and minimum wage literatures; The previous minimum wage literature is not consistent in the empirical measurement of the impact on adult women. This study attempts to reconcile the empirical results of the Mincer (2) and Gramlich (1) minimum wage studies by re-estimating their quarterly time series models. To extend this analysis, the model constructed for this study, while regressing the ...

The Management Of Water Resources: A Synthesis Of Goal Programming And Input-Output Analysis With Application To The Iowa Economy , Edward Kingsley Mensah Jan 1980

The Management Of Water Resources: A Synthesis Of Goal Programming And Input-Output Analysis With Application To The Iowa Economy , Edward Kingsley Mensah

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The study focused on the development of a multi-objective model combining input-output analysis and goal programming for providing guidance in the allocation of water resources. The model was applied in the allocation of water between the economic sectors of Iowa and within the eight Iowa water supply areas. The specific objective was to find out whether the state and its eight water supply areas have enough water resources to meet demands of economic and demographic projections to the year 2020;The input-output analysis possesses the capability of capturing the interdependence between the sectors of the economy while the goal programming ...

A Behavior Setting Approach To Social Accounts , Walter Gbute Ollor Jan 1980

A Behavior Setting Approach To Social Accounts , Walter Gbute Ollor

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation emphasizes behavior settings as the units of observation in a system of social accounts. Since all human behavior occurs in behavior settings, accounts drawn up on the basis of behavior settings encompass all human behavior. Towns and small cities (often county seats) and their trade areas can be viewed either as aggregates of behavior settings or as subregions of Functional Economic Areas;Preliminary accounts for the U.S. and for the Des Moines BEA Economic Area and its subareas are presented. These accounts give tentative estimates of the equivalent dollar values of behavior inputs (cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and ...

Syncrisis: Investigations Of A New Assessment Procedure , Mark J. Seling Jan 1980

Syncrisis: Investigations Of A New Assessment Procedure , Mark J. Seling

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Syncrisis is the process of making item-level comparisons between two or more people. It was proposed as a method for more directly assessing the amount of similarity between inventory respondents than standard scoring technology allows (e.g., correlation between profiles, and D('2) measures of similarity). Three experiments were conducted. Experiment 1 was a three week long test-retest reliability study. Two structured inventories, the Jackson Personality Inventory (JPI) and the Kuder Occupational Interest Survey (KOIS), were used as the bases for syncritically formed interpersonal similarity matrices on the test and retest data. The median reliability for syncritic scoring of the ...

Markov Process Models: An Application To The Study Of The Structure Of Agriculture , Steven E. Zumbach Jan 1980

Markov Process Models: An Application To The Study Of The Structure Of Agriculture , Steven E. Zumbach

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Factors which affect the number and size of farm firms were identified and analyzed in the context of the micro-economic theory of the firm. Historical changes in the structure of the agriculture industry were analyzed by summarizing changes in farm numbers by size class, tenure arrangement, organizational structure, vertical coordination, and purchased inputs;A detailed discussion of the underlying theory of a Markov process and an outlining of the Markov process model which could be used to study the structure of agriculture industry was presented. The results of the application of both a stationary and nonstationary Markov process model were ...
