Multi-Objective Ant Colony System For Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen, Junzhou Luo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Data-intensive services have become one of the most challenging applications in cloud computing. The classical service composition problem will face new challenges as the services and correspondent data grow. A typical environment is the large scale scientific project AMS, which we are processing huge amount of data streams. In this paper, we will resolve service composition problem by considering the multi-objective data-intensive features. We propose to apply ant colony optimization algorithms and implemented them with simulated workflows in different scenarios. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we compared it with a multi-objective genetic algorithm with respect to five performance metrics

Stochastic Modeling And Optimization Of Multi-Plant Capacity Planning Problem, Anoop Verma, Nagesh Shukla, S.K Tyagi, Nishikant Mishra

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

n this paper the problem of capacity planning under risk from demand and price/cost uncertainty of the finished products is addressed. The deterministic model is extended into a two-stage stochastic model with fixed recourse by means of various expected levels of demand as random. A recourse penalty is also included in the objective for both shortage and surplus in the finished products. The model is analyzed to quantify the risk using Markowitz mean-variance model.

Multi-Phase Ant Colony System For Multi-Party Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The rapid proliferation of enormous sources of digital data has led to greater dependence on data-intensive services. Each service may actually request or create a large amount of data sets. To compose these services will be more challenging. Issues such as autonomy, scalability, adaptability, and robustness, become difficult to resolve. In order to automate the process of reaching an agreement among service composers, service providers, and data providers, an ant-inspired negotiation mechanism is considered in this paper. We exploit a group of agents automatically negotiating to establish agreeable service contracts. Twostage negotiation procedures are used in our data-intensive service provision …

Multi-Stage Compressed Sensing And Wall Clutter Mitigation For Through-The-Wall Radar Image Formation, Fok Hing Chi Tivive, Abdesselam Bouzerdoum, Van Ha Tang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, a multi-stage through - The-wall radar imaging technique combining wall clutter mitigation and scene reconstruction is proposed. In the first stage, compressed sensing is applied to compressive measurements to recover the radar signals in the wavelet domain. Then, a subspace projection method is employed to remove the wavelet coefficients associated with the exterior wall reflections. In the second stage, the remaining wavelet coefficients are further compressed using principal component analysis. A compact linear measurement model is then formulated which relates the compressed wavelet coefficients to the image of the scene. Finally, the image reconstruction problem is solved …

Application Of Global Phase Filtering Method In Multi Frequency Measurement, Limei Song, Yulan Chang, Zongyan Li, Pengqiang Wang, Guangxin Xing, Jiangtao Xi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In reverse engineering, reconstruction of 3D point cloud data is the key step to acquire the final profile of the object. However, the quality of 3D reconstruction is influenced by noise in the three-dimensional measurement. This paper aims to tackle the issue of removing the noisy data from the complex point cloud data. The 3D-GPF (Three Dimensional Global Phase Filtering) global phase filtering method is proposed based on the study of phase filtering method, consisting of the steps below. Firstly, the six-step phase shift profilometry is used to obtain the local phase information, and encoding the obtained phase information. Through …

Computer Vision Based Traffic Monitoring System For Multi-Track Freeways, Zubair Iftikhar, Prashan Premaratne, Peter James Vial

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Nowadays, development is synonymous with construction of infrastructure. Such road infrastructure needs constant attention in terms of traffic monitoring as even a single disaster on a major artery will disrupt the way of life. Humans cannot be expected to monitor these massive infrastructures over 24/7 and computer vision is increasingly being used to develop automated strategies to notify the human observers of any impending slowdowns and traffic bottlenecks. However, due to extreme costs associated with the current state of the art computer vision based networked monitoring systems, innovative computer vision based systems can be developed which are standalone and efficient …

Optimal Design Of Semi Active Control For Adjacent Buildings Connected By Mr Damper Based On Integrated Fuzzy Logic And Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm, Mehmet Uz, Muhammad N. S Hadi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

An optimal design strategy based on genetic algorithms (GA) is proposed for nonlinear hysteretic control devices that prevent pounding damage and achieve the best results in seismic response mitigation of two adjacent structures. An integrated fuzzy controller is used in order to provide the interactive relationships between damper forces and input voltages for MR dampers based on the modified Bouc-Wen model. Furthermore, Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and H2/LQG (Linear Quadratic Gaussian) controllers based on clipped voltage law (CVL) are also used to compare the results obtained by fuzzy controller. This study employs the main objectives of the optimal design that …

3d Fem Analysis Of Strip Shape During Multi-Pass Rolling In A 6-High Cvc Cold Rolling Mill, Kezhi Linghu, Zhengyi Jiang, Jingwei Zhao, Fei Li, Dongbin Wei, Jianzhong Xu, Xiaoming Zhang, Xianming Zhao

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A 3D elastic–plastic finite element method (FEM) model of cold strip rolling for 6-high continuous variable crown (CVC) control rolling mill was developed. This model considers the boundary conditions such as accurate CVC curves, total rolling forces, total bending forces and roll shifting values. The rolling force distributions were obtained by the internal iteration processes instead of being treated as model boundary conditions. The calculated error has been significantly reduced by the developed model. Based on the rolling schedule data from a 1,850-mm CVC cold rolling mill, the absolute error between the simulated results and the actual values is obtained …

A Decision Support Tool To Optimize Imrt Qa Workflow In A Multi-Vendor Equipment Environment, Sankar Arumugam, Aitang Xing, Philip Vial, Lois Holloway

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Development of a software tool to ease the Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) pre-treatment Quality Assurance process is presented in this study. The delivery of IMRT involves equipment from multiple vendors. The limitations of the equipment involved in this chain will impact on the best choice of equipment. This often results in the user needing to use multiple pieces of equipment before determining the most appropriate choices to optimise the QA work flow. This is a time consuming process and potentially delays the start of patient treatment. Software was developed in-house to assist the decision making process, validating deliverability of …

Multi-Polarization Through-The-Wall Radar Imaging Using Joint Bayesian Compressed Sensing, Abdesselam Bouzerdoum, Fok Hing Chi Tivive, Van Ha Tang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents a new image formation method for multi-polarization through-the-wall radar imaging. The proposed method combines wall clutter mitigation and scene reconstruction in a unified framework using multitask Bayesian compressed sensing. First, the radar signals are jointly recovered using Bayesian compressed sensing in the wavelet domain. Then, a subspace projection method is employed to mitigate the front wall reflections. This is followed by principal component analysis, which is used to compress the remaining wavelet coefficients and remove noise. A linear model is developed which relates the compressed wavelet coefficients directly to the image of the scene. For scene reconstruction, …
