Lean And The Analysis Of Continuous Process Industry Supply Chains, Matthew P.J Pepper, Trevor A. Spedding Jan 2006

Lean And The Analysis Of Continuous Process Industry Supply Chains, Matthew P.J Pepper, Trevor A. Spedding

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

The lean approach is a well established philosophy in the manufacturing industry. Due to increasingly competitive global markets, the scope of application for this way of thinking is widening, and continually evolving to become suitable for application into new areas - the continous process industry being a key example.

Clinician Optimism: Development And Psychometric Analysis Of A Scale For Mental Health Clinicians, Mitchell K. Byrne, Nichole L. Sullivan, Stephen J. Elsom Jan 2006

Clinician Optimism: Development And Psychometric Analysis Of A Scale For Mental Health Clinicians, Mitchell K. Byrne, Nichole L. Sullivan, Stephen J. Elsom

Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences - Papers (Archive)

Clinician optimism is an important factor in achieving treatment outcomes in psychotherapy. Currently there are no measures of mental health clinician optimism which report substantial psychometric validation. This study sought to assesses the validity and reliability of the Therapeutic Optimism Scale (TOS). 223 mental health clinicians working in a range of clinical settings were administered the TOS and convergent and discriminate validity were established. Test-retest reliability was established over a period of one month. The Therapeutic Optimism Scale was found to achieve acceptable reliability (Chronbach's alpha = .68) and yielded consistent scores over a one month period (r = .68, …

Tacit Assumptions In The Analysis Of A Creative Economy, Dr. Eduardo Pol Jan 2006

Tacit Assumptions In The Analysis Of A Creative Economy, Dr. Eduardo Pol

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

The formal models of a creative economy revolve around these tacit assumptions: (1) all innovations are equally important for economic growth (equipollent innovation); (2) all innovations occur in one sector only (confined innovation); and (3) there are no innovatory discontinuities ( unruffled innovation).

Developing Familiarity With Learning Design Tools Through Subject Analysis, Christine A. Brown Jan 2006

Developing Familiarity With Learning Design Tools Through Subject Analysis, Christine A. Brown

Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) - Papers

The application of quality processes to tertiary teaching can result in a more team-based approach to course curriculum planning, the instructional design of individual subjects or units, the learning support associated with subject implementation and subsequent evaluation. The "art" of teaching requires more explicit communication within and across different teams that may be involved in each stage. Learning designs provide tools for design teams to map out learning environment attributes such as resources, tasks, people and interactions. Experienced teaching academics, unfamiliar with such tools, require orientation to them to achieve their communication potential. One way to introduce learning design models …

Gait Analysis Of Low-Cost Flexible-Shank Transtibial Prostheses, Winson Lee, Ming Zhang, Peggy Chan, David A. Boone Jan 2006

Gait Analysis Of Low-Cost Flexible-Shank Transtibial Prostheses, Winson Lee, Ming Zhang, Peggy Chan, David A. Boone

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The latest lower-limb prosthetic designs have been incorporated with dynamic elastic response (DER) components to enhance prosthesis flexibility, which are suggested to be beneficial to gait. Although DER prosthetic. feet are preferred by most transtibial amputees and their benefits to gait are supported by some biomechanical studies, many are still utilizing the simple conventional solid ankle cushioned heel (SACH) designs because of the lower cost. The monolimb, a transtibial prosthesis with the socket and the shank molded from a single piece of thermoplastic material, perhaps is an alternative to DER feet for providing flexibility at the shank. In addition to …

Explicit Dynamic Fem Analysis Of Multipass Vertical-Horizontal Rolling, Hai-Liang Yu, Xiang-Hua Liu, Xian-Ming Zhao, Di Wu, Y Kusaba Jan 2006

Explicit Dynamic Fem Analysis Of Multipass Vertical-Horizontal Rolling, Hai-Liang Yu, Xiang-Hua Liu, Xian-Ming Zhao, Di Wu, Y Kusaba

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Three passes of plate rolling during vertical-horizontal rolling process are simulated with explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method. The equivalent strain and stress fields, and shape change at the head and tail of slab during rolling are obtained. The calculated result of the shape at the head and tail of slab is in good agreement with the measured one. The explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method can be used effectively to analyze the multipass vertical-horizontal (V-H) rolling process. © 2006 Central Iron and Steel Research Institute.

Between The Lines: An Analysis Of The Language Of Indonesian Reporting Of Military Clashes In Aceh, Philip Kitley Jan 2006

Between The Lines: An Analysis Of The Language Of Indonesian Reporting Of Military Clashes In Aceh, Philip Kitley

[extract] Kompas Cyber Media is the online presence of the leading Indonesian daily Kompas and it was on the small screen that I first read about the kidnapping on 29 June, 2003 of television journalist Ersa Siregar, camera operator Ferry Santoro, their driver Rahmatsyah and two female passengers, sisters Safrida and Soraya. The online version of this drawn out story of reporters hostage to the Free Aceh Movement (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka, GAM) stripped down the news stories that appeared in the broadsheet. I was struck by the more than usually limited information value of the hostage headlines and stories from …
