The Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA) calls on scholarly publishers to open their abstracts, and specifically to deposit them with Crossref. Unrestricted availability of abstracts will boost the discovery of research. 40 publishers have already agreed to support I4OA and to make their abstracts openly available. I4OA is also supported by a large number of research funders, libraries and library associations, infrastructure providers, and open science organizations.

Using Thunderbird (email client) for printing hold slips has been effective for most situations. Yet this doesn’t mean that we cannot explore other options, especially when you encounter sudden changes that caused email headers to be printed on the hold slips unintentionally. After realising that the cause was an unwanted software update, we decided to create a tool that can be maintained within the resources of our team and to make it free from unwanted changes. Learn how SMU, a young university under 50, launched a digital repository back in 2010 and opened their research and scholarship to discovery by the world.
Get tips on how to improve the visibility and profile of your institution’s research and scholarly publications, to provide access to full text articles (wherever possible), to organize the university’s records for research and publications and how repositories discoverability drove some great individual successes for the faculty. This case study is very useful to better understand the importance of a good repository.

With the new normal being online learning or a hybrid thereof, the academic community is quickly trying to upskill themselves including librarians. But what about incoming first year students? Who and what support networks are being created to help them navigate the different facets of online learning? In this presentation, participants will learn about SMU Libraries’ Library Peer Advisors (LPA) initiative. LPAs provide peer-to-peer support by students for students in areas such as citation help, effective use of databases and introducing new students to the physical libraries through tours. In 2010, Singapore Management University (SMU) was just 10 years old with aspirations to keep growing and attain a global reputation. But how could the University highlight the hard work taking place in its schools and institutes? A core group of stakeholders decided that a digital repository was crucial to making the institution’s intellectual output openly discoverable in order to achieve a more globally visible profile. This case study shares SMU’s journey, as well as tips that can help other young institutions launch a digital repository and open their research and scholarship to discovery by the world.
