In 2016, SMU had one library, Li Ka Shing Library. From January 2017, the new Kwa Geok Choo Law Library opened its doors to the SMU community. The new Kwa Geok Choo Law Library has been in the making for over five years, designed to provide services to the entire SMU community, with focus on law collections. The unique and iconic dome of Kwa Geok Choo Law Library has become a magnet for photographers visiting Fort Canning Park.

Let me begin by giving a brief context to Singapore’s higher education and research ecosystem. There are six universities in Singapore which are, in order of longevity, National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore University of Technology and Design, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). National Institute of Education (NIE) is associated with NTU and is both an educational and research institution. Yale-NUS is a partnership between NUS and Yale universities. The Li Ka Shing Library recently included a new section, “Heat Maps” on the library website, providing users instant access to the physical occupancy spaces across all the different levels in the library. The indoor location-aware system is one in the latest slew of additions in tracking the library patrons’ visitations. It is the first of the many forms of library usage data sources that seek to provide an impetus in engaging the SMU community through real-time data visualizations. Faculty and Librarians are two distinct professional groups each with their own subcultures, values and experiences. Hardesty (1995) noted the existence of a "faculty culture" amongst faculty members, which quite likely shapes and influences the way these individuals perceive a highly subjective concept such as Information Literacy (IL). Faculty and Librarians in higher education institutions often work together in the development of IL Programs. Predicting the future is hard, more so in active research areas. In this paper, we customize an established model for citation prediction of research papers and apply it on research topics. We argue that research topics, rather than individual publications, have wider relevance in the research ecosystem, for individuals as well as organizations. In this study, topics are extracted from a corpus of software engineering publications covering 55,000+ papers written by more than 70,000 authors across 56 publication venues, over a span of 38 years, using natural language processing techniques. The article discusses the reason behind the reluctance of some researchers to deposit their work in institutional repositories (IR). These include ignorance on the existence of IR and the right of researchers to self-archive, lack of permanent institutional affiliation, and the tendency of IR to offer poor user experience. Also mentioned is the need aggregate each IR and the advantage of IR over centralized silos.

Singapore Management University (SMU) today celebrated the official opening of its new School of Law building and the Kwa Geok Choo Law Library. Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was the Guest-of-Honour at the ceremony, which was attended by 800 distinguished guests, donors, faculty, students, and SMU’s partners in the legal fraternity. Completed in December 2016, the new School of Law building now stands as a distinctive landmark at the junction of Armenian Street and Stamford Road/Fort Canning Link. Singapore Management University (SMU) Libraries embarked on its ‘Culture of Assessment’ journey in 2013, geared towards demonstrating fiscal accountability and driving a higher degree of stakeholder engagement. With more than 80% of library staff trained in the use of Lean Six Sigma for business process improvements, it was only natural that the library started putting in place procedures and systems to continuously assess and improve services.
