Correcting students’ errors is necessary for improving their linguistic and communicative competence. This study seeks to examine students’ and teachers’ perceptions about error correction in the L2 classroom. An online survey was designed and sent out to a purposive sample. The sample consists of 12 students from the University of Guyana’s Modern Language Programme, who are pursuing a career in Spanish, French and Portuguese (with B1 and C1 language levels), and 9 teachers (7 current/2 former) from the Programme who specialise in teaching these different languages. The results of the survey are analysed and discussed through a mixed method approach, …

The field of Psycholinguistics is receiving a considerable amount of attention due to its applicability in Applied Linguistics, as it is relates to the language learning process. In order to be able to able to determine how language is acquired and produced, it is necessary to understand the origins of language and those factors that play an important part in its development. Kerwin A. Livingstone
When we speak, we use sounds. Through these sounds, we are able to understand each other. This is because there are different types of relationships that exist between the sounds that we use in speech acts. This is the principal objective of Phonology: to study the relationships between speech sounds within a language system. Bearing in mind the afore-mentioned, a brief report is given on one chapter from Davenport and Hannahs’ (1998) book, shedding light on the importance of Phonology in the study of language. This paper discusses what generative grammar is about, and how phonology fits into this grammar. …

General Analysis Of An Online Language Corpus, Kerwin A. Livingstone
Kerwin A. Livingstone
Corpus-based research is rapidly gaining ground in the field of Applied Linguistics. More interesting is the evidence of many online language corpora which can be easily accessed, with just the click of the mouse. A quick navigation of the Web will produce different kinds of corpora in a vast number of language areas. Given the need to find new and exciting ways to improve the language learning and teaching process, corpus linguistics does have potential for generating significant learner experiences. Taking into consideration the above-mentioned, this paper deals with the general analysis of an online language corpus. The specific corpus …
