The aim of this study was to analyze the spatial distribution of the tuberculosis endemic in Rio de Janeiro State from 2002 to 2011. A retrospective study was conducted in the state of Rio de Janeiro from 2002 to 2011. Spatial analysis techniques were used to describe the distribution of tuberculosis incidence in the state. Multilevel Poisson regression model was used to access the relationship of tuberculosis and the following factors: “sex”, “age-group” and “diagnostic year” (individual-level factors). Demographic density and municipality were also included in the model as contextual-level factors. A reduction in endemic tuberculosis was observed over the …

Well, That Took A While: An Anecdotal Comparison Of The Job Application Process Between Public And Academic Libraries, Jessica Garner
Well, That Took A While: An Anecdotal Comparison Of The Job Application Process Between Public And Academic Libraries, Jessica Garner

When a position for Interlibrary Loan Librarian came open at Georgia Southern University in the latter part of 2015, I was intrigued. Although ensconced happily in a public library position and a 10-year veteran of public systems, the lure of an academic position-along with logistical considerations-prompted me to apply for the position. I believe my observations about the hiring, though anecdotal, begin to unravel a conversation comparing and contrasting academic libraries with public libraries, possibly to the benefit of both institutions.

Differences In Mental Health Education Across Baby Boomers, Generation X, And Millennials, Ashlyn M. Avera
Honors College Theses
There is no denying that mental illness has gained a strong prevalence in the United States. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately one in five adults in the United States experiences a mental illness in any given year. Although mental health stigmas have played a role in the past, it does not mean they must continue to play the same role in the future. Research is now looking toward ways to decrease mental health stigma through increasing mental health knowledge. This study examines the starting point for which a society becomes literate in mental health. Using a …

With the ability to create uniquely branded groups of guides limited to specific content creators and audiences, LibGuides CMS significantly expands the flexibility of the LibGuides platform to support libraries’ content management needs. During this session, presenters will share a series of use cases with LibGuides CMS, including two limited-access staff intranet sites; two limited-permission student-curated course sites; a uniquely branded special collections event site; a uniquely-branded peer-reviewed literary journal; and two faculty-curated conference presentation sites. This session will be of interest to anyone using LibGuides, LibGuides CMS, or similar content management systems.

Library Faculty Presentations
A concern of all academic Interlibrary Loan Departments is having faculty/ staff & students request materials already owned by their home library. Jessica Garner, Jessica Williams, Fred Smith, and Jermaine Bryant conducted a qualitative research study with IRB approval to explore this concern. In this session, the presenters will describe how data suggest a more streamlined approach to redirecting searches originating in the library for outside sources to assets already physically (or electronically) stored in the library.

Department of Political Science and International Studies Faculty Publications
In recent decades, the rise violent phenomena in Brazil has reached epidemic proportions. However, the prevalence of domestic violence (DV) across different states in the country is not well established. The objective of this study was to describe the distribution of DV across Brazilian states from 2009 to 2014. An ecological study based on spatial analysis techniques was performed using Brazilian states as geographical units of analysis. A multilevel Poisson model was used to explain the risk of DV in Brazil according to age, sex, period (fixed effects), the Human Developing Index, and the victim’s residence state (random effects). The …

OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: Despite the high prevalence of individuals diagnosed with sickle cell disease (SCD) in Tennessee, comprehensive care and education for patients with SCD is not as widely available as healthcare services for individuals managing other chronic illnesses. We aimed to engage SCD stakeholders in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) as a mechanism for advancing care and translational research for this rare disease population. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Through a partnership with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee, we implemented Community Health Ambassadors to systematically engage patient partners with SCD and their caregivers, aged 18–50 from rural and urban communities throughout Tennessee, in …

Objectives: To develop an LBoH classification scheme and empirical definitions to provide a coherent framework for describing variation in the LBoHs.
Data and Methods: This study is based on data from the 2015 Local Board of Health Survey, conducted among a nationally representative sample of LHD administrators, with 394 responses. The classification development consisted of the following steps: (a) theoretically guided initial domain development, (b) mapping of the survey variables to the proposed domains, (c) data reduction using principal component analysis and group consensus, and (d) scale development and testing for internal consistency.
Results: The final classification scheme included 60 …

Using a psychophysical approach coupled with eye-tracking measures, we varied length and width of shape stimuli to determine the objective parameters that corresponded to subjective determination of square/rectangle judgments. Participants viewed a two-dimensional shape stimulus and made a two-alternative forced-choice whether it was a square or rectangle. Participants’ gaze was tracked throughout the task to explore directed visual attention to the vertical and horizontal axes of space. Behavioral results provide threshold values for two-dimensional square/rectangle perception, and eye-tracking data indicated that participants directed attention to the major and minor principal axes. Results are consistent with the use of the major …

Cahost: An Excel Workbook For Facilitating The Johnson-Neyman Technique For Two-Way Interactions In Multiple Regression, Stephen W. Carden, Nicholas S. Holtzman, Michael J. Strube
Department of Psychology Faculty Publications
When using multiple regression, researchers frequently wish to explore how the relationship between two variables is moderated by another variable; this is termed an interaction. Historically, two approaches have been used to probe interactions: the pick-a-point approach and the Johnson-Neyman (JN) technique. The pick-a-point approach has limitations that can be avoided using the JN technique. Currently, the software available for implementing the JN technique and creating corresponding figures lacks several desirable features–most notably, ease of use and figure quality. To fill this gap in the literature, we offer a free Microsoft Excel 2013 workbook, CAHOST (a concatenation of the first …
