This research undertakes a longitudinal study to assess the representation of CSR activities on Canadian companies' websites. A systematic sample of the websites of 159 companies from Canada's top 1000 was assessed in 2003 and 2006. Results reveal that only 27% expressed some form of CSR activity in 2003, compared to 67% in 2006. Based on a frame from Weaver, Trevino, and Cochran (1999a), CSR activities are categorized as external or internal. A strong increase in internal CSR activities is evident. Companies that are more successful indicate more CSR activity on their websites; this effect is driven primarily by internal …

This paper investigates the role libraries play in American juvenile detention centers. An overview of facilities and services nation-wide is followed by survey results from three specific institutions: King County Youth Service Center in Washington, Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall in California, and Pima County Juvenile Detention Center in Arizona. The surveys were administered to minors at all three centers and faculty and probation staff at two. The literature review analysis and survey results reveal that reading habits and behavior of the majority of detained youth have benefited from having a library on-site which they can visit on a regular …

The Library Outpost, a satellite office of the campus’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, seeks ways to reach out to First Year students who are new to writing research papers. One of our goals is to meet the First Year students on their own turf. Since the Peer Mentors and Writing Center tutors have peer relationships with the First year students, we want to learn how we can collaborate with them to provide services to the First year students. We surveyed the Peer Mentors and Writing Center Tutors to assess their perceptions of their own research skills, and their …

Traditional Tropes And Familial Incest In Banana Yoshimoto’S Kitchen, Michele Gibney
Traditional Tropes And Familial Incest In Banana Yoshimoto’S Kitchen, Michele Gibney
Michele Gibney
Kitchen, written in 1983, by Banana Yoshimoto, contains one novella and one short story. The novella is entitled Kitchen and the short story which follows it is called Moonlight Shadow. In Moonlight Shadow, the structure of a Japanese Noh drama enfolds, wherein the ultimate end of the main character is to live on in a semi-incestuous relationship with her dead boyfriend’s brother. In Kitchen, the images that one is assailed by are those of desire coexisting with food, and love contingent on incest. The idea of food as a comfort conflates into that of a woman as comforting.
These two …

Bicentennial Lecture: The Charter Of Our Liberty, Steven Alan Samson
Bicentennial Lecture: The Charter Of Our Liberty, Steven Alan Samson
Steven Alan Samson
If we wish to know what the founding generation meant by liberty, consult the election sermons and thanksgiving sermons of the day. The founders knew that “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Cor. 3:17). They sought to live together as a Christian people according to Christ’s “perfect law of liberty” (Jas. 1:25). That is, “the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free” (Gal. 5:1). This is what is written between the lines of the Constitution. The Bible is the charter of our liberty. It is the substance of our constitutional liberties.

The New Left In Australia, Rowan Cahill
The New Left In Australia, Rowan Cahill
Rowan Cahill
Paper presented as part of the Eleventh Annual Conference of the Australasian Political Studies Association (APSA), 28th-30th August, 1969, University of Sydney. It is of historical interest, being an early exploration and evaluation of the Australian New Left by activist/participant/analyst Rowan Cahill (b. 1945- ). It predates more widely cited sources and authorities, and has been a difficult source to locate due to the limited nature of its original distribution.
