“Your Chance To Make Your Voice Heard”: Akaliyat Magazine And The Creation Of A Queer Community In Morocco, Benjamin Ale-Ebrahim
“Your Chance To Make Your Voice Heard”: Akaliyat Magazine And The Creation Of A Queer Community In Morocco, Benjamin Ale-Ebrahim
Journal of Global Initiatives: Policy, Pedagogy, Perspective
Publicly claiming an LGBTQ identity in Morocco can place a young person under the threat of violence, both on the part of the state, which criminalizes homosexuality under Article 489 of the Penal Code, and from actors within Moroccan society who wish to uphold a heteronormative conception of Moroccan national identity. The internet, with its potential for anonymous communication, serves as a relatively free and safe space for young queer Moroccans to explore their sexuality and gender identity. Akaliyat Magazine, an internet-based publication founded in 2015, serves as one of the only Arabic-language media outlets in Morocco that focuses on …

The authors deploy Marxist theory—and Gramscian hegemonic theory in particular—to investigate the subtleties of racial “othering” in the media representations of African Americans in a putatively post-racial America. The paper’s objects of inquiry are an opinion article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the reaction it instigated in the Atlanta Black Star. We argue that the contestations of signification between the dominant narrative about African Americans in the AJC and the rhetorical pushback it actuated in the alternative Atlanta Black Star both reproduce and legitimate dominant media framing by highlighting the alterity of subordinate ethnic groups and providing a site for …
A Perspective On Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices: Message Development, Media Selection, Medication Adherence And Health Literacy, Yvette Lynne Bonaparte
A Perspective On Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices: Message Development, Media Selection, Medication Adherence And Health Literacy, Yvette Lynne Bonaparte
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Health literacy includes not only literacy and numeracy, but areas related to an individual's ability to critically review and process health information in such a way that leads to improved health behavior and outcomes. The level of health literacy attained by a particular target audience is an important consideration for marketers of pharmaceutical products as it impacts both the message and the media selected for product promotion. Additionally, the degree to which health literacy levels impact medication adherence should be a consideration for those that market pharmaceutical products.
Perfect Timing: The Rise Of Women’S Political Leadership During Cultural Shifts, Christie E. Pearce
Perfect Timing: The Rise Of Women’S Political Leadership During Cultural Shifts, Christie E. Pearce
Oglethorpe Journal of Undergraduate Research
America has fallen behind in women's leadership, especially in politics. In the approaching era, there will be more viable female political candidates than ever in the past, but will the public be prepared to elect a woman to high office? Studies suggest that mentalities toward female leadership have taken a shift in a positive direction. The idea of what an 'ideal' politician must offer is more feminine in the modern era than ever before. In the age of social media, female politicians have opportunities to reach more constituents through social media in a more effective way than has been offered …
Clash Of Civilization Or Clash Of Newspaper Ideologies? An Analysis Of The Ideological Split In British Newspaper Commentaries On The 2002 Miss World Riots In Nigeria, Farooq Kperogi
Faculty Articles
Riots that erupted in the northern Nigerian city of Kaduna over a newspaper article that some Muslims interpreted as blaspheming the Prophet Muhammad on account of Nigeria’s decision to host the 2002 edition of the Miss World beauty pageant captured the attention of the media around the world. This article investigates how the British press framed the riots in their opinion columns and editorials. Through an interpretive textual analysis of the opinion pages, the study shows that while the ideological persuasions of left-leaning British press predisposed them to express opinions on the Miss World riots that resonated with what might …
Interlibrary Loan Of Media Materials— The Tennessee Tech Volpe Library Experience: A Model For Change, Patricia B. Mcgee
Interlibrary Loan Of Media Materials— The Tennessee Tech Volpe Library Experience: A Model For Change, Patricia B. Mcgee
The Southeastern Librarian
The sending of media materials via interlibrary loan is a practice in the library world that is fraught with controversy. On the one hand, the American Library Association’s Guidelines for the Interlibrary Loan of Audiovisual Formats makes a clear case for sharing audiovisual material in all formats. The reality, on the other hand, is more in line with the statement posted by the University of Oregon Libraries on their Interlibrary Loan webpage. In some instances libraries have adopted halfway reciprocal measures. They will loan only to those institutions that will also lend to them, or who are members of a …
