Nonresident Winter Visitor Profile: A Study Of Winter Visitors To Montana, Norma Nickerson, Thale Dillon

Provides an assessment of characteristics of nonresident winter visitors to Montana during the 2000-2001 winter season. This report describes the winter visitor in terms of demographics, trip characteristics, travel behavior and expenditures in the state, as well as provides an updated estimate of economic impact of winter travelers in the state. The report also serves to update information gathered during ITRR's previous nonresident winter study in 1997-1998.

Pilot study to determine the effectiveness of an on-site regional survey for gathering information on summer visitors and their expenditure patterns. The objectives of the study were to determine the best survey instrument and methods to use at the regional level, and to describe visitors to the Gold West Travel Region in terms of demographics, trip characteristics, travel behavior and expenditures.

The author reports the results of an exploratory study concerning the importance placed on attributes of hotel selection by Japanese and American guests and cultural differences between these two groups, which represent the largest market for Korean international tourist hotels. The findings suggest that Hofstede's (1960) four dimensions of cultural values can be used to help marketers better understand their guest's hotel selection criteria.

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have become influential development actors in the developing world over the last two decades and are becoming increasingly involved in “sustainable” activities. However, there has been little attention given specifically to how NGOs impact sustainable development through particular development activities such as tourism and if the organizations themselves are sustainable. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was to address this shortcoming in the development literature by undertaking a comprehensive study that analyzed the role of NGOs in the tourism sector in Belize.
