The Open Parks Network serves the global parks community by providing the information, tools, and solutions to support the stewardship of the natural and cultural assets of protected areas. To date, over 350,000 items and 1.5 million pages of material has been digitized as part of this project. This presentation details the project's background and strategies used for digitization and metadata creation. Additionally, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Donor Card Collection project is detailed. This webinar presentation was conducted as part of the LYRASIS "Second Friday" series.

Both institutional repositories and cultural heritage institutions have broadly defined collection development policies. As such, many collections could appropriately reside in both. However, at many institutions digital libraries that support cultural heritage collections are often supported by CONTENTdm, while institutional repository initiatives are supported by another platform--in Clemson's case, DigitalCommons. Librarians at Clemson University identified several key collections that fit both the scope of its institutional repository and digital library. Often, it is not enough to simply have published works, but one must also demonstrate the impact of those works. Luckily, there are strategies you can use to bolster the visibility and impact of your work. This presentation will cover author's rights, negotiating publication agreements, open access publishing, and free resources you can use to boost the visibility of your work.

Open access within legal academia provides a case study for the effective use of digital formats to promote scholarship. The presenters review the background historical developments in this field, and consider the benefits and rationales for providing open access to legal scholarship, including the special faculty concerns arising from SSRN and its relationship to the institutional repository. Results from the presenters’ recent empirical study of the citation advantage for open access scholarship in American law reviews will be discussed and placed in broader context of the benefits of open access scholarship.

Partners In Teaching & Learning: Peer Research Tutors In The Library And Across Campus, Lisa A. Forrest

Students can play a unique role in the development of information literacy skills among their peers. Hamilton College's Peer Research Tutor Program, established in the fall of 2014, provides peer-to-peer information literacy support reaching far beuond the walls of the library. Serving as "first-tier" support at the desk, Research Tutors also develop and deliver information literacy workshops, create new bridges between their fellow peers and liaison librarians, and serve as information literacy ambassadors across campus.
