Library instruction to improve information literacy (IL) is often considered essential only for undergraduates. However, students in graduate/professional programs do not always have the requisite skills needed for graduate level study and research, which suggests they may also benefit from library instruction targeted specifically to graduate students. This study used a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness of library instruction for increasing IL skills and/or knowledge among graduate and professional students. The Impact Of An Online Library Skills Course On A Face To Face Instruction Program, Rachel Mulvihill, Carrie Moran, Corinne Bishop

In 2013, an online information literacy skills course was implemented for two core courses (English Composition II and Strategies for Success) at a large research university. This short online unit, Introduction to Library Research Strategies, is offered via the campus learning management system, Canvas. It can be used as a replacement for face-to-face instruction, or as a pre-assignment to “flip” library instruction. Now two years into the project, we will examine our instruction statistics to see how it has impacted the program overall. Results from an instructor survey and a librarian survey will also be reviewed.
