This report evaluates the fourth year of the Economic Inclusion program of the Greater University Circle Initiative (GUCI) in Cleveland, Ohio, namely the activities and accomplishments during 2014. The GUCI combines the economic power of anchor institutions with the resources of philanthropy and government to create economic opportunity, build individual wealth, and strengthen communities in the neighborhoods around University Circle and the Health Tech Corridor of Cleveland. This report measures the economic impact of early-stage companies that have been supported by JumpStart Inc. and its partners in the Northeast Ohio Entrepreneurial Signature Program (ESP).1 Companies included in this report have received significant technical assistance and/or direct investment funding from entrepreneurial support organizations in the ESP. This report summarizes the findings of an in-depth study of the manufacturing sector in the Greater Northeastern/Northern region of Pennsylvania. The objective of the first section is to draw attention to the role manufacturing plays in the regional economy. It compares manufacturing to other sectors of the economy in terms of employment, gross regional product, wages, productivity, and number of establishments (See Table E-1). The Living Cities Integration Initiative (TII) began in 2011 as a three-year program to accelerate local initiatives promoting greater economic inclusion in five cities across the country. In Cleveland, Ohio, the TII was known as the Greater University Circle (GUC) Community Wealth Building Initiative and was part of the more comprehensive Greater University Circle Initiative (GUCI) between 2011 and 2013. The GUCI began in 2005 and will continue beyond TII. This report will refer to the three-year Living Cities program as the GUCI/TII. This brief continues a series of publications that tell the story of manufacturing in Northeast Ohio (NEO) and provide an overview of the trends in employment, gross regional product, average wages, establishments, and exports for major manufacturing industries. This year’s focus will be on short term trends (2010 to 2012) that describe the growth of the manufacturing sector, with a detailed analysis for specific industries that constitute the sector. Northeast Ohio’s trends are then compared to trends in the United States and the remainder of the state of Ohio.

This report assesses the economic impact of Cleveland State University on the five-county Cleveland metropolitan area. The study was conducted by the Center for Economic Development at Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs. The economic impact of the university operations is based on FY2013 data (July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013), which was the most recent completed fiscal year for which data was available at the start of this study. The economic impacts of the capital expenditures are based on FY2009-2013 spending.

This study describes the impact of GRC on the State of Ohio and on Northeast Ohio, where GRC is located. Northeast Ohio includes the eight counties in the Akron and Cleveland metropolitan areas.1 This report is an expansion and update of an earlier study, published in February 1996.2 As before, this study employs two methods to determine GRC’s influence on the state and local economies. The first method uses quantitative models to estimate the effect of GRC on the studied economies.
